Dandelion of the Week: Thai Maciel 🌼

Thaiane Maciel is the President and Founder of Canal Novo Mundo, a project from Instituto Ecocria that promotes awareness through itinerant environmental and climate education actions in public spaces, through community engagement and environmental communication.

Throughout her career, Thaiane didn't waited for permission to be taken seriously She showed up again, and again, until showing up became its own kind of legitimacy.

This project involved surveying 161 youth-led biodiversity organisations across 57 countries, revealing 21,000+ young people mobilising largely unpaid, unfunded, and already leading; funders must catch up. We're delighted to announce that we've received funding from the Creative Climate Action Fund III, and the Shared Island initiative for 'The Messages': a new women-led, shared island climate and food project.

In partnership: The Mary Robinson Centre, Hinterland CLG, Project Dandelion and artist Victoria McCormack. We're delighted to be working with the Women's Resource and Development Agency, Studio Idir and Brink in Northern Ireland.

The Messages is funded under the Creative Ireland Creative Climate Action Fund III, announced by Taoiseach Micheal Martin and Ministers Patrick O'Donovan TD and Darragh O'Brien TD. It's one of 11 successful initiatives named under the Creative Climate Action Fund III.

Taking its name from the Irish colloquialism for 'the groceries,' The Messages builds on a shared food culture rooted in land, sea, seasons and community — exploring and reshaping how people grow, share and relate to food across the island of Ireland.

At its heart will be Creative Food Facilitators — women trained alongside climate experts, artists, scientists and growers, fostering behavioural change in communities through shared meals, food exchange and distribution, weaving practical creative climate action into daily life. The aim is to embed lasting change that reduces food waste, increases access to seasonal produce and establishes replicable, community-led resilience models.

This is creative climate action you can taste, share and grow.

This International Youth Day, we're featuring Frances Fox as our Dandelion of the Week. 🌼

During her school years, Frances noticed her peers had little interest in the climate crisis, but were excited by music. Based on this experience, she launched Climate Live; a youth-led charity engaging a new audience of music fans in climate and intersectional social justice issues.

Five years on, she now works as the Global Founder and Director of Climate Live UK. Frances and the team at Climate Live team follow an ethos rooted in intersectionality, breaking down barriers for young people to get involved in climate justice work through hosting live music, talks, and creative workshops.

To mark International Youth Day, we're spotlighting our Dandelion Partners Agape Earth Coalition 🌼

Founded by Dandelion Evelyn Acham, Agape Earth Coalition is a collective of youth climate campaigners from across Africa. Their vision is to create a safe space for climate movement groups to build collective, collaborative strategies to tackle the crisis across the African continent.

Through their Grassroots Communities Climate Program (GRCCP), Agape Earth Coalition discovered that women in the Kotido District in Karamoja, Uganda, were already drawing on generational knowledge to adapt to a changing climate.
