Dandelion of the Week: Payal Dalal 🌼

Growing up with immigrant small business owner parents and travelling widely, she observed the same pattern everywhere: people working with remarkable ingenuity, held back not by a lack of solutions, but by a lack of opportunity. That conviction has driven her career. For Payal, the real barrier is the persistent gap between innovation and investment - and closing it is what her work is built around.

Today, she leads at the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth - with whom we’ve partnered alongside CARE and in a new report launching at London Climate Action Week, reframing women entrepreneurs as opportunity, not risk.

Women are at the heart of regenerative agriculture – nurturing their farms, raising their families, shaping their communities, and restoring their land. 🌱

But they often face real barriers to leadership: limited land ownership, unequal decision-making power, and the weight of daily household demands.

(SHI) works to change that. They train women to restore their land through sustainable farming, build leadership and business skills, and break through traditional limits on their influence.

Meet three women from Honduras SHI is walking with and learning from.

Change doesn’t trickle down. It grows up - from the ground, through trust, through the hands of women farmers, micro-entrepreneurs, and community health leaders who’ve been building solutions long before the world started paying attention.

We hosted the Feeding a Hotter World Dandelion Dialogue in Nairobi with our friends from the Women, Faith, and Climate Network (WFCN) to listen, connect, and document what’s already in motion across East African food systems, from seed innovation and regenerative agriculture to circular systems and farmer-centered technology.

Hear from Liz Wathuti, Lenah Mwangi and Rachel Kibui on what part of the Dialogue resonated with them.

Achaloi Jane Frances is a Ugandan community leader who mobilizes women smallholder farmers through organic farming and collective action.

Witnessing climate change devastate her community’s soil and crops, she became an advocate for environmental restoration and food sovereignty. Her leadership proves that women farmers are not just participants in change but powerful drivers of resilient, community-rooted solutions.
