Beading is an art form passed down through the generations of Embera. Men and Women both bead! It is normal for these families to work all day and bead late into the evening to have items to sell. It’s a beautiful craft. I want to encourage you that when you come to Colombia and want to buy a souvenir to take home, you should look for something that is handmade by the people! It’s a beautiful memory of the people who make up this amazing country! Every day u have some begging me if they can work for us at Casa Embera!! I pray for more orders so we can give more people work! You can shop online, on Amazon, here at our foundation, or you can host a Party in a Box. When you shop with us you are making a real difference as we try to help serve these vulnerable families.

Yesterday was a hard day!! We had the goodbye party for our amazing Coordinator! She is moving back to her hometown and we are so grateful for her years of service and love for the Embera People and her leadership! We cried alot and shared a lot of appreciation and love!! We pray the best for her and her new adventure! One of our Embera ladies said I’m going to go home and cry! Julieth has had such a positive impact on so many lives, including our own! We will miss her so much!

One of our kids from Casa Embera was in a bad accident this last Friday. He was crossing a busy road and was hit by a motorcycle. Miraculously he walked away from the accident with bad bruises and scrapes and broken teeth but alive and with no broken bones. We praise God for protecting his life. A woman died in that same location a few weeks ago when she was hit crossing the road. We pray for protection for these children who are in dangerous situations and we are so grateful for WF’s life and his family. Every life is precious!

We have a tradition of going to visit the Embera on the streets of cyclovia every Sunday morning! You can find these women selling their artisan goods on the streets of the city or begging if they have nothing to sell. The authorities are cracking down on this practice and may women are afraid they will get their children taken away by protective services but the need is great so they risk it. Many women have come to me at Casa Embera asking for work, we try to connect them with local businesses and we give as many as we can work to make beaded jewelry. Your online purchases make a real difference- because it provides work for women that don’t want to risk it by selling in the streets but need a dignified place to sell!! I’ve always had a dream of a beautiful indigenous artisan market in Poblado with lots of stands where these ladies can sell with dignity and without fear!! Until then- we have a cool new project about to be launched- To fight Begging and S*x Trafficking through sells of Artisan Jewelry!! Stay tuned for more information soon! Sharing Hope and Changing lives one bead at time!
