I am FINALLY getting around to seeing some of the BEAUTIFUL photos that Jeannine Charles took for us at Colombianimals and Fundación Adopta No Compres spay/neuter campaign in Malambo, Colombia last November.

💔Sigh... I have mixed feelings when I see THIS beautiful headshot because it was taken just hours before my dad passed away 😞

I know my dad was my biggest supporter and # 1 fan, and he was EXTREMELY proud of the work I was leading in Malambo. Still... I wish I would've spent more time with him as he recovered from his foot surgery, which, in my opinion, is what cost him his life 😤

I left my volunteer team (15 people from Canada, the United States, Mexico and Colombia) in the hands of my partners and allies Dra. Paula and Iván and I flew back to Bogotá that same afternoon wearing the clothes you see in this picture...

Keep in mind that Malambo was probably around 33°C that morning 🌞, and Bogotá was around 10°C 🥶 when I arrived that evening wearing only shorts and a t-shirt.

Huge thanks to my bestie Mónica Mariño Gutiérrez for helping me book that flight, picking me up at the airport and being a solid rock for me that tragic afternoon/evening.

Feel the feels, right? 💓🙏

✨ The Cartagena Sterilization Campaign may have come to an end, but it’s never too late to give a huge shoutout to our incredible volunteers who made it all happen!

Meet the Cartagena Sterilization Campaign Class of 2025 👏👩‍🎓👨‍🎓

Volunteers came from all over: Mexico, the United States, Canada, Germany and, of course, Colombia. 🇲🇽🇺🇲🇨🇦🇩🇪🇨🇴

They played essential roles in every part of the campaign—from prep and recovery to washing instruments, carrying animals, and performing surgeries. 🐕🐈🪥🧼✂️🩺

A special thanks to Jacqui Gomez of FHAT Friends Helping Animals Together for sparking this amazing initiative! 🙏 She approached us almost a year ago with a vision to raise funds and rally her friends to Cartagena—and now, look at all we’ve accomplished together!

9️⃣9️⃣ spays and neuters within 2 days!

When we unite our efforts, we’re capable of achieving bigger, greater things and making a lasting impact on the animals who need us most. 🐶🐱

Thank you to everyone who joined hands in this campaign. Let’s keep pushing forward 🥰

This past weekend we partnered with FHAT Friends Helping Animals Together, an organization led by Jacqui Gomez.

Jacqui took care of the fundraising and enlisted a group of 7 volunteers to join us in Cartagena, Colombia to sterilize 99 dogs and cats over 2 days.

Our goal was 120 surgeries and since we have the medications and supplies, we are going to return there at the end of February to finish off and reach our goal!

Thank you FHAT. Thank you Jacqui, and thank you to FHAT's volunteers, Maggie, Dee, Kristy, Mari, Renata, Dr. Greg and Dana!

Thank you to Colombianimals volunteers Dra. Paula Rojas, Dr. Abraham Can Silveira, Dra. Zaira Téllez, Dra. Ailing Aparicio, Mariana Cervantes and Nina Pachur!

Thank you to our local liaisons, Paola Morales and Claudia Cogollo.

AND... thank you to all the pet owners and guardians who brought their dogs and cats to our clinic 🐱🐶

Meet Colombianimals Veterinary Director, Dra. Paula Rojas from Bogotá, Colombia.

Paula knew she wanted to be a veterinarian from an early age when she pretended to hospitalize her stuffed animals!

She graduated as a vet in 2012 and initially focused on equine medicine at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, gaining experience through internships at Álamo Pintado Equine Hospital and Hagyard.

Paula transitioned to working with small animals in 2016 and by 2019, she dove into the world of sterilizations, joining MSD Colombia to manage adverse event reports while dedicating weekends and vacations to performing surgeries.

Now, Paula tirelessly sterilizes street dogs and cats in vulnerable communities, forging partnerships with groups and nonprofits that share the same mission of controlling the animal population 🤝🌍.

Currently, Ivy serves as the Outreach Specialist for the California for All Animals team within the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine program, where she continues her mission to support animals and their people, making a positive impact in the communities they belong to! 🌟✨

This will be Ivy's first campaign with Colombianimals and we're grateful to have such as skilled technician in our volunteer team!

Let's welcome Dr. Carlos Sánchez to the Colombianimals volunteer team once again!

Dr. Carlos works at Bogota's animal welfare and protection institute, where he performs hundreds upon hundreds of sterilization surgeries on dogs and cats every year.

Without a doubt, Dr. Carlos is one of THE BEST veterinary surgeons whom we've worked with. His knowledge, skill set and professionalism are outstanding and we can't wait to work with him again this November.

On top of being an excellent veterinarian, he also displays his altruistic endeavours by volunteering once or twice per year at large sterilization campaigns in Mexico.
