Successful implementation of the PROCARIBE+ Project hinges on establishing strong relationships and effective collaboration with our Co-Executing Partners. These partners are the engine for executing critical on-the-ground activities in PROCARIBE+ participating countries and across the Wider Caribbean region.

On November 25, 2025, the Project celebrated its Third Project Executive Group (PEG) Meeting, regrouping our partners to reflect on our joint progress and strategically plan for the upcoming year.

We were excited to learn about the advancements in key areas, including:

✅Marine Spatial Planning (MSP)
✅Fisheries Traceability
✅Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)
✅The development of robust "blue" Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)

It is clear that our partners are intensely committed to achieving our joint objectives for PROCARIBE+ to be a success. We look forward to continuing this vital exchange and finding common approaches to support project ex*****on and ensuring lasting impacts for the Caribbean and its communities. By working together we can overcome challenges and secure a more resilient and sustainable ocean for the Wider Caribbean.

🌍 The PROCARIBE+ Project was the key featured project in the 2025 UNOPS Climathon at UN City Copenhagen, bringing together university students from diverse academic backgrounds to tackle real ocean challenges directly linked to the PROCARIBE+ initiative. In a cross-disciplinary hackathon, teams of students were tasked with developing scalable, practical solutions that support the PROCARIBE+ goals. Sonia Gautreau, Senior Project Officer of the PROCARIBE+ Project, was thrilled to accept the opportunity to present PROCARIBE+ and provide assistance to the students ensuring the solutions developed were practical and tailored to the realities on the ground in the Caribbean.

🐟 This is a great example of how PROCARIBE+ is engaging the next generation to address the critical biodiversity-climate-sustainability nexus in the Wider Caribbean Region. We are excited to see the bold solutions emerge and hope that this experience will be transformational for the youth participants.

That's a wrap for the Blue Economy Knowledge Exchange between the PROCARIBE+ and the African SIDS Projects!

What an impactful week in Belize that will not soon be forgotten. The last two days of the exchange gathered several representatives from the Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation, Coastal Zone Management Authority & Institute, Fisheries Department - Belize Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association Blue Bond and Finance Permanence Unit, WWF and Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism.

Belize is showing the world how to use people-centric sustainable financing to protect marine and coastal resources while benefiting its communities.

We were deeply impressed by:
🐟 The groundbreaking Blue Bonds for Ocean Conservation, which established long-term funding for marine protection.
🐟 The innovative Resilient Bold Belize (RBB) initiative, which is set to raise over $160 million to promote nature-based livelihoods and climate resilience through an inclusive stakeholder approach.

🤝 New friendships were made, and our colleagues from the African SIDS Project are returning home with concrete ideas on how to implement these best practices and financing mechanisms in their own countries. A true example of South-South collaboration!

🎣 We want to thank the Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation for being such great hosts and to all the other representatives for taking the time to meet with us and share their inspiring stories. Thanks to Iwlearn for the financial support that allowed us to participate in this exchange.
