World Contraception Day is a reminder that access to contraception is about more than preventing pregnancy, it’s about rights, health, and opportunity.

When young people have access to contraception, they can make choices that shape their futures. They can
- Stay in school longer
- Pursue careers and economic opportunities
- Plan families on their own terms
- Build healthier, more resilient communities

Contraception empowers individuals, especially women and girls to take control of their lives, their health, and their dreams but when access is denied, the consequences are devastating:
- More unintended pregnancies
- More unsafe abortions &
- More preventable deaths

On we are reminded of the important role contraceptives play, and the opportunities they create.

Thank you Nigeria Health Watch for organizing such a powerful policy dialogue on closing reproductive health impact gaps!

Closing the gap requires consistent efforts from us, looking inwardly, collaborating, mobilizing local resources, building communities and sharing our stories, stories of true change and impact.

Let’s also continue to encourage more open and inclusive conversations on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) across our schools and communities in Nigeria.

We are proud to announce that we have been appointed as a Board Member of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, PMNCH , the world’s largest alliance dedicated to the health and well-being of women, children, and adolescents.

As a youth-led organization, this membership reflects our continued commitment to elevating youth voices and advancing sexual reproductive health rights and justice across the globe. It is also a testament to the critical role young people play in shaping inclusive and impactful health policies.

Through our seat on the PMNCH Board, we aim to;
- Advocate for youth-centered and rights-based approaches
- Strengthen accountability and equity across health systems
- Foster meaningful youth engagement at all levels of decision-making

We had the privilege of participating in the Future of Family Planning Convening in Washington, D.C., an inspiring gathering of changemakers, health professionals, advocates, and young leaders committed to shaping the future of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights globally.

At the convening, we were able to engage in meaningful conversations, share innovative solutions, and amplify the voices of youth in the family planning and SRHR space. The discussions were a powerful reminder of the importance of access, equity, and inclusion in family planning efforts, and the vital role young people play in driving this work forward. 🙌🏽

IYAFP is more committed than ever to advancing these critical conversations, advocating for youth leadership, and championing the rights of individuals to make informed choices about their reproductive health.

We’re excited to continue building on the momentum from this convening and collaborate with partners to create lasting, positive change, as well as lead up to the International Conference on Family Planning at Columbia by November this year.

It was great to connect again with youth leaders working to advance Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Justice, SRHRJ, across their communities!

At , IYAFP, in collaboration with and , hosted a side event titled “The Next 30 Years of The Beijing Platform for Action: Intergenerational Partnerships to Advance SRHRJ Amidst an Anti-Rights Wave”.

The event underscored the importance of intergenerational collaboration in navigating these challenges. Young people are uniquely positioned to leverage digital innovation, mobilization strategies, and fresh perspectives, while older generations offer invaluable institutional knowledge, policy expertise, and historical context. By fostering meaningful dialogue and cooperation between these groups, we can build a more resilient and strategic SRHRJ movement.

During this event we launched a feedback process to a training manual that we developed and we are happy to receive your feedback on the training manual, and if interested, indicate your interest in piloting it (with funding support provided).
