Morning Star Shines Bright: 11th Morning Star Cup Sci-Fi Awards Conclude with a Focus on "Reconstruction" and International Collaboration
The 11th "Morning Star Cup" Chinese Original Sci-Fi Literature Contest Awards Ceremony was held under the stars at Shenzhen University Town, embodying the theme of "Reconstruction"—seeking order and hope amidst global change.
Breaking from tradition, the event was held on an open lawn, celebrating the integration of youth, community, and global perspectives in Nanshan District.
🏆 New Generation Power: The ceremony showcased the vibrant energy of China's emerging sci-fi writers:
Best Novel: Son of the Wind and Sand (风沙之子) by Ding Tianran—a "wasteland punk" epic praised for its pursuit of love and freedom.
Best Novella: Give Me a World (给我一个世界)—won by a high school student, highlighting impressive depth.
Best Short Story: Flowers Bloom on This Shore (此岸花盛开在彼海) by Xiu Cheng.
🌍 Globalizing Chinese Sci-Fi: A major focus was the comprehensive upgrade of the "Calvino" Sci-Fi Overseas Initiative, designed to promote Chinese sci-fi internationally. Key partnerships were signed:
Literary Track: Collaboration with Italy's Future Fiction to push Chinese works into the Italian and European markets.
Film/Art Track: Strategic agreement with the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival to facilitate cross-field exchange.
These partnerships establish a "dual-track mechanism" for Chinese Sci-Fi to successfully navigate the international market through both literature and screen arts.
