On 14 August 2026, UNESCO-ICHEI was invited to participate in Uzbekistan's national‑level higher education conference. The event was organised by the Center for the Development of Higher Education and Global Cooperation under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and focused on the theme "Developing Higher Education Services: Improving the Quality of Educational Programs, Supporting Entrepreneurship in Education, and Expanding Employment Opportunities".

On 13 August 2026, the UNESCO-ICHEI delegation, led by Mr. XU Mingshun, Chief of the Administrative Affairs Office, and Ms. YANG Ling, Consultant of the Global Partnership and Programme Office, visited Tashkent University of Information Technology (TUIT) in Uzbekistan to attend the launch ceremony of the IIOE "AI + Cross-Border E-Commerce" Micro-Certification Pilot Project, jointly initiated by UNESCO-ICHEI and the IIOE Uzbekistan National Center. The pilot project aims to cultivate a new generation of digital talent in Uzbekistan equipped with artificial intelligence(AI) and cross-border trade competencies through international curriculum resources, localized course development, and industry collaboration.

【Case in Focus】A Smart Classroom "Grown" at the Foot of the Himalayas

On 21 May 2026, the unveiling ceremony for a new smart classroom was held at Tribhuvan University in Nepal. The smart classroom at Tribhuvan University was coordinated and driven by the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI), with academic support from the Southern University of Science and Technology - SUSTech and sponsorship from MAXHUB_Global, a Chinese education-technology company.

This time, we turn our lens to Nepal to see how the digital transformation of higher education is taking root at the foot of the mountains.

🌱 Advancing AI-powered agritech education in Kenya!

From July 28 to August 1, 2026, a UNESCO-ICHEI delegation, Mr. Zian Cao, Chief of the IIOE Management Centre, and Ms. Xin Yuan, Senior Programme Officer at the Global Partnership and Programme Office, travelled to Kenya for our very first field visit dedicated to the "AI+AgriTech" micro-certification project.

Developed together with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), "AI+AgriTech" is part of the IIOE "AI+Industry" series. Through a three-tier "Foundation–Integration–Application" pathway of 7 courses and a capstone project, it uses digital technologies and AI to strengthen agritech education and nurture local talent for sustainable development.

Over five days, we met with partners across academia, research, government, and industry to explore how to bring the programme to life locally:
🎓 Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT): our proposed pilot university, and host of the UN-supported AI Centre of Excellence for Capacity Building in Africa
🔬 Sino-Africa Joint Research Centre (SAJOREC): exploring support for local technical expertise and hands-on training in agritech
