PARASITE CONTROL PLEA (X2)
While external and internal parasites are common in cats and dogs, these can cause anything from discomfort to life-threatening illness. From the unbearable itching of skin rashes and the dangers of anemia caused by fleas, mites, and ticks, to dehydration from diarrhea caused by worms, common parasites can make life miserable and possibly deadly for homeless animals.
In today's SCAAShanghai Official WeChat (see link in Comments) we are raising funds for more parasite control for our healthy foster animals.
SCAA is also raising funds to provide a dedicated feeder of homeless dogs with as many rounds of easy-to-apply topical parasite control for the friendly street dogs that she feeds nightly.
Unfortunately, we do not have the financial and foster resources to find even the friendliest of these dogs a home.
But with your help, we can at least improve their quality of life in challenging circumstances.

MAISIE'S FUNDRAISING GOAL MET
Thanks to donations, including a generous monthly ¥2000 contribution to Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai vet invoice at Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic, foster cat Maisie's recent discounted costs for a boarding stay + treatment for minor cat flu symptoms, has been fully covered. A couple hundred RMB extra went to SCAA debt.
Our biggest goal for Maisie is to find her the family that she deserves. It took years of being stuck in a boarding cage for Maisie to find the right foster home (no other pets, at least 2 people around), and this will come to an end when her foster parents wrap up a Shanghai-based project.
Please don't let sweet Maisie get stuck back in boarding again... Let's find her a home!
See her update in the SCAAShanghai WeChat Official Account link in Comments.

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT ⏳
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai can hardly believe that bonded siblings Cora & Cooper took 4.5 years to find the adopter who not only saw adult cats for the great pets that they are, but also saw the benefits of bonded pair adoption.
Now, this cat lover's days are filled with two pets who ignore their fancy cat tree to cuddle with her instead.
In 2021, Cora & Cooper were born in the comfort and safety of a foster home. Their mom Kitty is long adopted as are their brothers. But Cora & Cooper showed early on that they were a duo. SCAA respected that, and we weathered years of financial responsibilities for their discounted Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic care as well as costly long stints in boarding when foster homes were non-existent.
The donors and the fosters who did step up made all the difference to these two.
Overlooked does not mean undesireable. We encourage you to consider the longest-fostered (or sheltered) cat or a bonded pair next time you're adopting.

MAISIE'S NEW INVOICE
Maisie was back at Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai vet partner Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic but this time, rather than being stuck years, it was thankfully only a couple of weeks while her foster parents traveled.
Maisie has ¥2,580 in discounted boarding fees plus tests and treatment for congestion and nasal discharge and of course a refill of her helpful anti-anxiety medication.
With Mahia's costs only 75% covered after two consecutive pleas, this time SCAA is hoping for 100% success for Maisie.
Soon, SCAA will turn our attention once again to adoption features for Maisie. Her foster home is only temporary, and such an amazing cat (albeit particular about being a single pet and about having at least 2 people around) cannot be stuck again in boarding for months or worse when fosters leave.

PICK MANGO!
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai is disappointed that Mango was stood up recently, after potential adopters made several queries about meeting him. Their loss 🤷‍♀️
Since Mango thankfully found a new foster home, his urgent need has been met. There's plenty of time to find his forever home.
A super single cat - this guy is all about befriending people and is very much aggressive with other animals, Mango is up-to-date with all his vet care basics + a dental cleaning at SCAA's vet partner Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic
Feel free to message us about Mango and Follow SCAAShanghai Official WeChat Account for another feature on this fantastic ginger guy.

MAX & HIS CLEAN TOE BEANS!
Bring on the 好可爱 as Max is all shiny and clean again following yesterday's grooming at Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai's vet Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic.
Max already attracts a multititude of "so cute!" comments out on his walks, so let's see how many more he gets now.
*Max is still looking for the right forever home - one with a walled or fenced terrace or garden.*
This guy loves to be outside, and 22 kilos of energetic fluff are not well-suited to downtown Shanghai high-rise living. For sure Max is a happy dog now, but SCAA knows he could be even happier.

IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED ...
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai is hoping that our first attempt at raising pretty foster kitty Mahia's discounted pre-op, boarding, and spay costs failed miserably due to bad timing. We thought maybe people would be reading our Official WeChat feature while enjoying the May holidays .... it seems everybody was off their phone instead!
So this week we try again.
And remind Shanghai animal lovers that Mahia is now more than ready for adoption. This happy girl is healthy - ISO chip, full vaccinations, spay, and parasite control.
Please help take the stress out of making an exception taking Mahia into care when she was found by a visitor to the city during Chinese New Year. With mere days left to find support for Mahia, SCAA acted first and figured the rest out later. Mahia is pure joy to have in foster care, but that's not good enough when we have bills to pay. ‘TIS THE (KITTEN) SEASON
This lovely little lady is really lucky. She is now anyway!
A couple of weeks ago, one of our vets saw a guy reach into the road and move a tiny blob aside to the ‘safety’ of the sidewalk. At first, she thought it was a dying bird or rat. But it was unfortunately a Neo-Nate kitten who was likely dropped by a busy mom rushing across the street carrying babies. No cats were anywhere in sight, so the vet scooped up this baby and has been diligently bottle feeding and toileting her.
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai stopped by her ICU cage where she hangs out in the work day to say hi. We’ll be featuring her for adoption in a few weeks.

EVERY DAY IS A PURRFECT DAY FOR A LATTE
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai is so surprised that nobody has even asked about our gorgeous one-eyed Snowshoe guy Latte.
He's a sweet, laid-back cat who loves the bed at night (and all night!) and who diligently settles next to the laptop to supervise your work.
Latte doesn't really seek out other animals, but he's quite fine sharing space with other friendly cats.
He's the picture of health - ISO chip, fully vaccinated, neutered, and successful surgery to remove an underdeveloped eye from a congenitve defect.
Latte is losing his foster home soon. If he doesn't find that forever home he deserves, Latte urgently needs a safe (indoors only) and comfortable place to keep waiting for his SCAA Success Story.
See today's SCAAShanghai WeChat Official Account feature in Comments below. Ask us about Latte!

MAHIA'S SPAY DAY RECOVERY.
Mahia is showing off her nicely healing spay incision for everybody to see that she is totally ready for a forever family!
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai will publish an updated feature on this pretty kitty in our WeChat Official Acocunt (ID: SCAAShanghai) shortly.
Follow us to see how great Mahia is for yourself! If you can't adopt or even foster, please consider supporting Mahia's latest discounted Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic costs.
