How can this even be? Not a single person in Shanghai reached out to us following Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai's super urgent plea to foster Tom.
Tom's rescuers are in even more dire straights that SCAA.
Shelter volunteers found friendly Tom alone in a garden. Their shelter was damaged in the last typhoon and they've relocated 100 dogs and rescued goats to a temporary location.
They have no place for Tom.
SCAA has no place for Tom, not without a NEW FOSTER coming forward.
Tom has been stuck at our vet partner Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic for too long, and rescuers are piling on debt.
Tom started vaccinations and has parasite control. He's healthy, playful, and cuddly.
Why can't just one more foster home be found?
We realize the holidays are coming, but not even one response suggesting help could come soon?

Please, Shanghai. HELP TOM. He is too young and so sweet to end up back outside as a TNR cat. And without more help, that is this amazing little guy's fate.

TEDDY'S AMAZING RECOVERY
Thanks to support for Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai's ongoing Mid-Autumn-themed fundraising, we are making progress paying debt, which recently climbed due to summer orphan rescue Teddy.
Looking at Teddy's boundless energy now, it's hard to imagine that 2 weeks ago he was hospitalized at Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic with a high fever and painful inflammation in his front left paw. Poor Teddy was suffering from the double whammy of bacterial and viral infections.
He's wrapping up antibiotics, and we likely can stop weekly Pentosan injections and get back on schedule with vaccinations.
SCAA's next goal for Teddy is more ambitious: a home of his own!

MID-AUTUMN MOONCAKE VIRTUAL BAKE UPDATE
Thanks so much to the animal lovers who kicked off Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai's Mid-Autum-themed fundraising feature to help pay down our rescue family's debt. (see link with Thank Yous in Comments below)
Also in the spirit of Mid-Autumn Festival, SCAA has named a new emergency intake "Luna".
Why an emergency?
Tourists were horrified to witness somebody toss Luna into a trash bin!
Despite leaving China soon, and having no support in the city, they didn't hesitate to grab Luna out of the trash and try and figure the rest out later.
Rescuers kindly donated to SCAA debt, and our vet partner Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic is doing everything they can, to reduce the burden of taking responsibility for Luna.
She is one sweet kitty. For now Luna is in isolation at PAW, getting worming meds, flea control, and sponsored gastro kibble for her bad poops. She is thankfully negative for FPV.

This WeChat feature from Choice Shanghai is super useful.
When should you check out the estimated costs of keeping a pet? Before you get one is the ideal answer.
When people enquire about adopting a cat or dog, we take for granted that they 'love animals'. That's not reason enough to add one to your life.
Pets are sentient beings who deserve care and attention that only money can buy.
We're not talking top-of-the-line everything. If you can afford that, great. But in the real world all the basic necessities add up.

MID-AUTUMN PLEA FOR OUR RESCUE FAMILY
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai kicks off a new week with good and bad news.
While donations kindly covered foster kitten Teddy's initial discounted Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic invoice, Teddy's ongoing hospital stay for the sudden onset of joint inflammation and high fever is sending costs climbing.
With the family-oriented holiday of Mid-Autumn Festival coming up, SCAA is bringing back our virtual mooncake 'bake' fundraising plea.
Every donation helps 'bake' a ¥500 mooncake, with a box bringing in ¥4,500 towards our debt.
Mooncakes that make a difference! What's not to like?

TEDDY TAKES A TURN...
Kalshi has nothing on the unpredictability of rescued kittens. Just when Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai was confident this sweet tabby guy was past his mysterious symptoms of leg tremors and below average weight for his age, Teddy's condition took a bad turn yesterday.
In the morning, Teddy seemed his usual sweet self, soundly asleep against his foster mom. But when he stayed in bed a suspiciously long time without meowing for his wet food, we discovered him holding a lame front paw up.
A rushed trip to Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic resulted in clean x-rays, but obvious severe inflammation in Teddy's shoulder joint and a high fever.
Back home, oral meds weren't the turning point Teddy needed.
Today, Teddy's fever was even higher and his shoulder far more inflammed.
He's back at the vet, this time on IV antibiotics, fluids, anti-inflammatory injection, and vitamins.
Throughout his ongoing ordeal, Teddy remains a little purr machine the minute vet staff give him head rubs.
SCAA kindly received donations for Teddy's initial invoice, but his care costs will now skyrocket. Our annual Mid-Autumn themed fundraiser coming shortly.

SOLVING TEDDY'S MEDICAL MYSTERY
Shanghai summer can be sweltering hot, with dangerously high humidity affecting both people and animals.
Teddy's fate changed on a day that the city had issued alerts not only for the ongoing heatwave, but also for rain storms, gail force winds, and lightning. This little guy ran out of a drain past a surprised foster mom, who had never seen him in the small lane before, and remained under a pile of furniture stacked by the street gate, crying his little head off for hours.
Second Chance Animal Aid Shanghai just couldn't reach Teddy on our own, so we asked for help with a professional rescuer's catching fee. Thanks to a quick response, properly equipped help arrived. Teddy was soon in the safety and comfort of a foster home.
Unfortunatly for Teddy, he's suffered a string of health issues - from a spot of crusty fungus that quickly healed, to more worrying leg tremors, slight flat-footedness, and difficulty putting on weight.
SCAA's vet partner Shanghai PAW Veterinary Clinic is on the case. Teddy's blood test show low creatinine (a product of muscle metabolism) levels. Symptoms and test results could be due to serious chronic disease or muscle disorders, to more treatable nutritional deficiency.
Teddy is due for his 2nd vaccination soon and hopfully blood tests are better then!
This tabby and white guy is a sweetie. The heart-shaped marking on his back leg is bang on.
