Best Friends China (BFC) is a non-profit animal welfare group based in Shanghai to promote adoption and responsible pet ownership. We mainly serve as a third party platform to help individual rescuers and shelters find homes for their rescued animals, via a website (www.bestfriendschina.org/en), a page (https://www.facebook.com/bestfriendschina?ref=hl), a We Chat subscription account (BFC
_520) and Adoption Days hosted every Sunday in Shanghai (different locations). BFC was founded in 2011 by Singaporean named Jane who has resided in Shanghai for over 7 years at the time. Before that, Jane was acting as the board member of a registered group “Shanghai Small Animals Protection Association” for 4 years. She helped to start a shelter, helped run events and was the first to introduce the TNR concept in Shanghai. She now has launched “Best Friends China”, with the help of dedicated volunteers. She is more than passionate about the animal cause and is now working full time as a volunteer for BFC. BFC is managed indeed entirely by volunteers, whose work include maintaining BFC activity and raising awareness in the Shanghai community, via social media events and adoption days in the city, as well as event planning, volunteer recruitment and management etc. BFC is not a shelter, but a platform to create a bridge between the struggling and overpopulated Shanghai shelters (far away from downtown) and the population (both local and expat communities). BFC funding is only based on donations and sponsors, and all financial information are disclosed to donators regularly. To date, BFC has helped over 400 animals find forever homes, and has a great network of foster parents and rescuers.
