Sometimes a small story becomes a powerful reminder of who we are.

Israel’s men’s and women’s goalball teams, a sport for athletes with visual impairments or blindness, arrived in Hangzhou, China, last Thursday ahead of the World Championship which began on June 10.

As the athletes prepared for the competition and adjusted to their new surroundings, an unexpected problem arose. the massage table, which are essential for the athlete’s strength and recovery, had not been brought from Israel under the assumption they would be easy to purchase locally. However, no tables were available, and those that were found were only expected to arrive several days later.

The head of the delegation reached out to Chabad Shanghai for help: “I know this is a somewhat unusual request, but perhaps you know someone who could help us obtain massage tables quickly?”
Within minutes, they were connected to an Israeli living in Hangzhou who manages a private cancer treatment hospital — Liran Shameriz.
A few hours later, the delegation sent an emotional message: “Today, we understood more deeply the meaning of the phrase ‘All of Israel are responsible for one another.’ Liran simply saved us.”

When thanked, Liran replied with simple but meaningful words: “It is an honor for me to help fellow Israelis 🙏 We are one people 🙏”

Thousands of kilometers from home, a small act of help once again reflected the strength of our people.
All of Israel are responsible for one another.
Am Yisrael Chai!

With deep sorrow we share the passing of Mr. 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 “𝗧𝗼𝗺𝘆” 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, a dear friend and frequent visitor to the Shanghai Jewish Center.

He was close to 90 and was with us just two weeks ago. A truly caring and charitable man may his memory be a blessing.

Shiva is at his daughter’s home: 2 Ha-Hagana St., Ra’anana, Israel.

May Hashem comfort his family and may we share only good news.
