𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗷𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 "𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻" 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲
On the last day of August, members of the Rugao Green Science Volunteer Service Association from Jiangsu, China took a year's worth of work to a podium in Beijing.
They were there for a national gathering marking the 2026 Ecological and Environmental Volunteer Service Month. Across August, 31 provinces and regions held more than 650 volunteer activities, mobilizing 38,000 volunteer participants. Rugao's association was one active force among them.
Over the past year these volunteers have done plenty of concrete work—river patrols, beach cleanups, ecology talks, biodiversity protection. They led young people to the Jiaogang Canal to protect its waters and carry on its culture, and joined fish restocking along the Yangtze to safeguard the aquatic ecosystem.
In Beijing, an original stage play on volunteer service was performed, representatives renewed their pledge, and a national directory of 173 venues open to volunteer work was released. Afterward, delegates visited a themed volunteer market and the practice sites at Beijing Forestry University.
The association's head called it a valuable journey of learning.

𝗣𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗼
In late August, faculty and students from Peking University's School of Foreign Languages came to Rugao, Jiangsu, China for a three-day field study on foreign investment and high-quality development. From smart factories to classical gardens, they found a county-level city offering more than expected.
At Sieyuan Electric, they learned about ultra-high-voltage smart equipment, where overseas revenue reached 29.49% in the first half of 2026. The company was candid: its biggest bottleneck is opening overseas markets, and it urgently needs German, French, and Spanish speakers—precisely what these students bring.
At Bestway, they tried inflatable mattresses, surfboards, and other inflatable leisure products. The company holds 35% of the global market and sells across Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia, with similar demand for Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese speakers.
At WEG Electric, they toured a highly automated motor manufacturing base, where Brazil's WEG Group launched a US$100 million expansion this January. At the Gaozhihui OPC ecosystem community, shared offices and computing and tax-law services sit under one roof. As one faculty member put it, it's a first choice for young entrepreneurs.
The trip closed at Shuihui Garden, the silk carpet museum, and the Henry Lee Forensic Science Museum. Rugao's appeal isn't only its industry—it's the life here too.

𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗨𝗽 — 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗼'𝘀 𝗦𝗸𝘆 𝗜𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆
We keep our heads down and hurry along, forgetting there's a whole sky overhead putting on a free show.
Lately the sky over Rugao, Jiangsu, China has gone crystal blue. No filters, no editing needed—clear blue stretching wide, with great puffs of white cloud drifting slowly on the wind. Sunlight spills through the gaps and lays a soft glow over the whole city.
Someone stops at a street corner for a photo. Someone stands on a balcony letting their thoughts wander. Someone rolls down the car window at a red light for a quick look. Nothing planned, yet everyone under the same sky receives the same small comfort.

𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝗻 — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗼'𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝗼
Last weekend in the 2026 Jiangsu City Football League, Nantong beat Lianyungang 1-0 on the road, with Jin Chengmin heading home in the 75th minute to seal it. That's three straight wins since the coaching change, leaving them level on 16 points with three other clubs in a tight race.
The win on the pitch set off celebrations hundreds of kilometers away at Rugao's watch parties. At Wuyue Plaza, Wanda Plaza, and other shopping districts, fans gathered in front of big screens to cheer the team on. The moment the goal went in, the whole space filled with noise. Last year, a foreign vlogger even paid a visit to Rugao's football training base.
Rugao is known as a land of longevity and wellness, and this appetite for sport is bringing fresh energy to an old city.

𝗡𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀, 𝗡𝗼 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮 — 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗨𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁
In Luqiao Village, Rugao, Jiangsu, China, there's a basketball tournament with no professional players and no fancy venue—and it brings the whole village to life on summer evenings. They call it the Village BA, and Luqiao has run it four years straight.
The fourth edition tipped off late last month. Players might all come from the same village, or they might be factory workers who drove over after their shift. On the sidelines, neighbors fan themselves and drag over stools, packing the court until there's no room left. None of the tension of pro sports—just the warmth of people who already know each other.
Since the first tournament in 2023, it has become a fixed part of summer here. One basketball game, and a village evening finds a whole new rhythm.

𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘂𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁
Pick either half of the day and it's worth showing up for.
The recent "One Happy Day" community gathering in Erian Community, Changjiang Town, Rugao, Jiangsu, China filled residents' schedules from afternoon to night. The daytime games kept things refreshingly down to earth—novelty bowling, a peanut-shelling race, and standing shuttlecock kicking. No athletic background required. Roll up your sleeves and join in, with laughter running through the whole afternoon.
Once dusk fell the stage lit up: drums, erhu, dance, and comedy sketches in turn. Tibetan dance medleys, jazz, folk duets, and a sketch about gift money that hit close to home—performers fully committed, the audience fully absorbed. Evening wind carried the music, and the community square became an open-air gathering.
Activity and stillness, young and old together. This is what a neighborhood feast of sport and culture looks like.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿
At Longyou Bay in Changjiang Town, Rugao, Jiangsu, China, morning arrives like a ceremony unfolding slowly.
The sky shifts from ink blue to crimson, layer after layer of glow spreading across the water as though someone were mixing colors along the horizon. A warm breeze comes off the river while the whole shoreline stays sunk in quiet—no crowds, just earth and sky keeping each other company.
There's no need to chase anything. Stand at the bank and wait. Soft pink turns to orange, then to gold across the whole sky, until the sun lifts clear of the water and light spills out in every direction.
No crowded viewing platform here. Just a quiet stretch of riverbank and a sunrise that costs nothing.

On Jindao in Rugao, Jiangsu, China, a narrow path runs through a metasequoia grove.
The towering trees are still green, but the leaf tips have quietly begun turning pale yellow. Wind stirs the crowns and sunlight filters down through the branches, scattering flecks of light across the trail. A shallow stream threads through the woods, its sound barely there. The breeze crosses this quiet green refuge and carries off the last of the summer heat.

𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗼: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹
Today marks Bailu, White Dew—the fifteenth of China's 24 solar terms, when nights grow cool enough for dew to settle on grass and leaves by morning. As the old saying goes, after White Dew, don't go about bare-shouldered.
In Rugao, Jiangsu, China, the season shows itself early in the day. Dew beads on rice leaves in the fields around Shaozhuang and Pingyuanchi, cotton bolls open white, and the paddies begin their slow turn from green toward gold. Farmers watch the grain fill, knowing harvest is near. Along the Yangtze at Longyou Bay, reeds catch the first cool light of the morning.
Tradition holds this is the time to nourish gently—pears, lily bulbs, and white fungus to ease the dryness autumn brings. In our City of Longevity, eating with the season has never been complicated advice.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲, 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
In Guzhuang, Rugao, Jiangsu, China, all 881 households grow flowers and trees, and every family shapes bonsai.
People here believe trees outlive people, so anyone who plants one must be thinking of the next generation. The row of nearly century-old podocarpus in Chen Garden stands as living proof of the Rugao style's signature "two and a half bends"—a craft five generations of the Chen family have refused to let go. In 1952, Chen Jie's ancestors turned over 300 acres of abandoned land into Rugao's first collective nursery. The first generation buried saplings in barren ground and rooted an entire industry in Guzhuang.
In the early 1980s, Wang Guangming returned from that nursery and experimented on his own plot until he found his way into bonsai. His children founded a landscaping company and sold Guzhuang bonsai to Suzhou, Shanghai, and Nanjing—shifting from selling saplings to selling design. Today more than 200 companies here make their living from gardens. The fourth generation sits in livestream rooms, sharing this thousand-year craft with the country and beyond.
In Wusong Garden, five podocarpus represent five virtues: integrity, ambition, simplicity, openness, and calm. The owner says teaching bonsai isn't only teaching the hands—it's teaching patience and respect. A podocarpus takes well over a decade from cutting to form. It cannot be rushed.
