Amherst China Initiative

Amherst China Initiative ACI offers US college students an international volunteer experience teaching in China to students of all levels (graduate, undergrad, secondary, and primary).

The Amherst China Initiative (ACI), based in Hangzhou, China, is a non-profit program founded by Amherst alumni in 2009 for college students to work, teach, study, volunteer and travel in China. ACI fellows will instruct free, open and self-designed English courses to the public at China's nationally ranked 3rd university, Zhejiang University, in Hangzhou. When not busy with teaching or preparing

for classes, ACI fellows will undergo intensive language study on weekdays and backpack through China on the weekends.

Hello ACI community,
I am posting here after such a long time with some very sad news that Jason Kung has passed away. This program and being a part of your lives if even only for one summer meant the world to him. We would often reminisce about the adventures we had with you all over the years--the stunning hikes, the delicious meals, the unexpected friendships, the disasters, the sunrises, all of it.

Jason's family is collecting videos from those who knew him. A message from his brother, Brandon: “We would appreciate it if you could record a video about Jason. I guess start off introducing yourself and how you met Jason, and then talk about a memory you have of him or what he meant to you. Doesn’t have to be long, or if you’d want it can be.” You can also send in any photos or written memories. You can email it to [email protected] or [email protected], please by July 15th.

You all had such an impact on his life, and I just want his family to know how much of a positive impact he had on our special community. Please also feel free to reach out to me, at [email protected] to stay in touch.

Love,
Annika
