Congratulations to Ma Wai Wai Oo, a graduate of Tsinghua University ‘17 and Master’s degree candidate of Tsinghua School of Public Policy’ 20, for her evening gown rental and makeup artist app startup. While working towards her undergraduate and master’s degree research, Wai Wai runs two evening gown rental shops in Wudaokou with the seed capital from 清华 x-lab. She got her initial business idea after serving as an MC for the University’s gala nights and various ASEAN student events where she saw a real demand in affordable and beautiful gowns at student events.
Wai Wai is born and raised in Pyin Oo Lwin, known as the City of Flowers in Myanmar. 🌸 🌹 💐
"I’ve always wanted to do something to prove myself ever since I started college. Entrepreneurship has allowed me to find my sense of self-worth.”
Zhang Zhiwei grew up around merchants in Myanmar, which caused her to develop a natural affinity towards business and management.
She started taking courses on entrepreneurship during her second year at Tsinghua. Through these classes, she met people who would eventually become her partners and mentors on her “Qing Xiu Hua Mei” venture.
Having taken up emcee roles during her years at Tsinghua, she noticed a missing market for clothing and cosmetics on these occasions. So in 2017, she officially launched her brand “Qing Hua Xiu Mei” to provide formal wear rental and makeup services for students.
“I’ve also come to realise after 5 years of venturing that it’s not just for myself, it’s a social responsibility.”
