Berat came back to visit yesterday. It was interesting following him around — he knows everyone, from his former subject teachers to current students. I couldn’t help thinking: even though he’s our alumni, he fits in here so comfortably, like he’s still at home. I love this feeling. Whenever our alumni come back, WAB truly feels like home to them.

Highlight ✨

A huge shout‑out to WAB alumnus Victor Bouteiller and his wife Emilie!

Last year, the couple created the beautiful picture book: Bertha cherche ses oeufs, as a gift for their son Malo. Victor brought the vibrant ocean‑themed story to life with all the wonderful illustrations.

They generously donated this book to WAB, so more of our students can enjoy this charming tale about friendship and solidarity across the Indian Ocean wildlife.

Drawing has been Victor’s passion since he was young. Even though his professional career sits firmly within finance, he never gave up on his creative dream.

Thank you so much Victor and Emilie for this great gift. We hope you will come back to visit campus soon. And one day, we would love to welcome Malo as part of our WAB community!

Proud News: JS Tan’s New Book Against Tech Oligarchy is available!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate our alumnus JS Tan and his important new book, co‑authored with Clarissa Redwine. Many of you may remember that JS’s artwork still hangs in our high‑school building, a lasting reminder of his creative, thoughtful spirit from his time as a WAB student. Today, he brings that same curiosity and courage to published writing.

JS and Clarissa draw on 15 combined years organizing tech workers to tell the under‑heard story of the tech‑worker movement. Against Tech Oligarchy tracks how tech employees came together to challenge powerful industry leaders, built early‑stage unions, and pushed back against corporate contracts with ICE, the Pentagon and fossil‑fuel companies. The book also examines the sharp push‑back workers faced: union‑busting campaigns, retaliation, and how rising AI tools are now being used to justify mass layoffs across the tech sector.

Too often, Silicon Valley stories center founders and executives. This book gives voice to the workers who actually built the industry, arguing why tech‑worker organizing remains more urgent than ever amid the rise of tech oligarch power.

So lovely to have Vera and Aleksandar back on our WAB campus today!

They wandered around, soaking in all the familiar but so different spaces, and told us:
“We had an absolutely extraordinary great time at WAB, unique.”

There’s nothing quite like seeing former families step back onto campus again. Always happy when you get to come home.

They're back!! They are the first group of alumni walked through the refreshed elementary school spaces today, and honestly, watching them was the best part. They wished they could just sit down in Junior G1 all over again and soak in all the stunning
changes. They went around saying hi to every teacher they remembered, and of course — a few still needed the IT department 😅 Some things never change, and we love it. So happy to see these faces again.

We love WAB - Western Academy of Beijing, shared Ing Xhu and Ing Xhuen after their recent campus visit.
They enjoyed over four hours wandering around campus, revisiting spaces that shaped their school years. Even after all that time, it was hard for them to say goodbye. It is beautiful to see how deeply WAB stays with our alumni long after graduation.

We loved hosting our WAB alumni parents back on campus for a reunion! We shared campus updates, made fragrant sachets and painted lacquer fans, then watched dragon boat races side by side.
So happy our alumni parents still stay part of the WAB community. Can’t wait for our next meetup!
