A Junior Parliamentarian of the Model United Nations Young Leaders Parliament, Mukungka Ndahnui Moufou Yakum, carried out a vibrant community clean-up initiative which was successfully carried out at the Bambili Health Center, located in the Tubah Subdivision of the North West Region of Cameroon. Driven by a strong sense of civic responsibility and community service, she organized this activity with the understanding that a healing environment begins with cleanliness, aiming to support the local healthcare system and improve conditions for both patients and medical staff.

The initiative was strategically planned to target key areas that directly impact patient care and hospital functionality. The clean-up exercise focused on the main hospital hall, the corridor, and the space adjacent to a private patient room, as well as parts of the hospital surroundings. The hospital hall, known for hosting major events such as professional gatherings, medical seminars, and conferences, required a thorough environmental intervention due to its high usage and exposure to potential contaminants. The team carried out an intensive cleaning process to eliminate dust, surface microbes, and floor-level pollutants, thereby significantly improving hygiene conditions and contributing to creating a safer and more comfortable environment for patients.

This initiative highlights the impact of collective action and reinforces the idea that contributing to the healthcare system goes beyond medical expertise. Through dedication and volunteerism, meaningful improvements can be made in community health facilities.

Sunday, March 22, 2026 – Kawas Levi Jiyah, a junior parliamentarian of the Model United Nations Young Leaders Parliament organized a community sensitization activity at Baptist High School, Buea,

As part of his commitment to youth leadership, civic engagement, and community development, a health education session was organized to educate students on the importance of mental well-being and to sensitize them on leadership values and participation in community development initiatives.

During the session, several objectives guided the discussion. Students were educated on the concept of mental health, common mental health challenges faced by students, and the importance of adopting healthy coping strategies. They were also encouraged to seek help whenever they face emotional or personal difficulties and to develop basic leadership values and a sense of responsibility.

The main topic of the discussion was “Mental Health: Taking Care of Your Mind as a Student,” alongside an additional talk on leadership and civic awareness. The outreach was carried out with the support of Ayeh Jovanih and successfully reached approximately 800 students, in the presence of the Principal, Vice Principals, and both teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution.

During the session, students were encouraged to prioritize their mental health just as much as their physical health. It was emphasized that students experiencing academic stress, peer pressure, or personal challenges should not be afraid to seek help from school staff and trusted individuals who are ready to support them.

The discussion also highlighted early warning signs of emotional distress, such as persistent sadness, anxiety, withdrawal from social activities, and irregular sleeping patterns. Students were guided on positive coping strategies including time management, engaging in healthy activities such as sports and music, outdoor activities, maintaining healthy eating habits, and seeking guidance and counseling when necessary.

Students were also informed that unhealthy coping strategies, such as drug and alcohol consumption, engaging in risky behaviors, or self-harm, are not solutions to mental health challenges.
