FROM SALES SPECIALIST TO DIGITAL ADVOCATE: GLADYS SHARON SIH's JOURNEY TO IMPACT

Gladys Sharon Sih has long been passionate about using her voice to ignite change in her community, never hesitating to seize opportunities as they arise.

Before participating in the digital advocacy training held in September—organized by Heart of Hope Cameroon in partnership with UNITY Foundation Cameroon-UFC and Africa Needs Us Foundation - ANUF —Gladys was engaged in her daily work as a sales specialist with a company based in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

She was among the young participants selected for the digital rights workshop, and throughout the training, she stood out for her critical questions and invaluable contributions to the discussions.

“The knowledge I gained from the training has truly transformed me. I learned how to carry out advocacy effectively, and I’ve become much more conscious of what I share online,” she explains.

“I left the training as a committed young woman, ready to stand out among my peers. I developed the courage to ask questions and the zeal to dig deep for information before deciding whether to accept it or pass it on to others,” she adds.

Following the training, and to encourage participants to apply their new skills, Heart of Hope Cameroon launched a digital advocacy competition. Sharon emerged as one of the three winners, based on the reactions, comments, shares, post clicks, and engagement her posts received.

She is set to receive her prize during the upcoming national roundtable in Yaoundé, which will bring together members of government, parliamentarians, telecom operators, and other dignitaries.

2025 presidential Election: What next after voting day?

Once the ballots are cast, the task does not end there. In this report, we will focus on the post-election processes, including the responsibilities of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) and the Constitutional Council before the proclamation of results and the swearing-in of the new president.

Cameroonians across the nation and beyond cast their votes on Sunday October 12, 2025. The electorate has fulfilled its civic role. ELECAM and the Constitutional Council are left to continue with the tasks to ensure the votes reflect the choice of citizens. Once the counting process is complete, the results obtained from each polling station will be proclaimed.

Before the official results are proclaimed, electoral disputes may arise, which the Constitutional Council determines the legality of the litigations.

Romeo Tembo, a Political Analyst says according Section 12 of the Electoral Code, the Electoral Board of EELECAM is responsible for ensuring compliance with electoral law by all stakeholders to guarantee regular, impartial, free, fair, transparent, and credible polls.

The Constitutional Council will then adopt and proclaim the results of the presidential election within 15 days from the closing of the polls. From this analysis, the results of yesterday's polls is expected on October 27 except otherwise.

After the proclamation of results, Section 140 of the Electoral Code states that the president-elect must take the oath of office within no less than 15 days. The president will take the oath before the Cameroonian people in the presence of Members of Parliament, the Constitutional Council, and the Supreme Court.

In line with our commitment to Inclusive Democratic Leadership and Civic Engagement, Unity Foundation Cameroon is proud to announce that our Board Member, Ntang Julius Meleng, will be joining other distinguished panelists today on Canal 2 International

He will feature on the popular program “Entre Nous” to explore a timely and thought-provoking topic:
“Voting or Abstaining – Can We Reconcile Citizens with the Ballot Box?”

This discussion comes at a crucial moment when citizens across Cameroon are questioning the value of their participation in the October 12, 2025 presidential elections and subsequent elections. Low voter turnout, voter apathy, and mistrust in electoral systems remain pressing challenges that threaten the very foundation of our democracy.

Through his participation, Mr. Ntang will share insights on how inclusive civic education, accountable leadership, and renewed citizen engagement can restore faith in the ballot box. He will also highlight Unity Foundation Cameroon’s efforts to promote democratic values, empower communities, and strengthen citizens’ voices in governance.

At Unity Foundation Cameroon, we believe that every vote counts, every voice matters, and democracy thrives only when citizens actively participate. This is why we continue to champion initiatives that encourage civic responsibility, build trust in democratic institutions, and create opportunities for inclusive leadership.

We invite Cameroonians everywhere to tune in, follow the conversation, and reflect on their role in shaping a more just, inclusive, and democratic society.
