Stella Simiyu - Director General, CropLife Africa Middle East (CLAME), leading the organisation through its next phase of growth and impact across a 23-country network.
She is a seasoned key actor in regulatory affairs, policy engagement, and stakeholder partnerships and has worked at the intersection of complex science and practical solutions — always with farmers at the centre.
Through CLAME, she has led regulatory harmonisation initiatives across 20+ African and Middle Eastern countries, coordinated capacity-strengthening programs for regulators, and represented the organisation at global forums including UNEA and Regional Economic Communities.

Imagine being introduced to the market as the “next big thing”… and a few months later being compared to the proverbial quail ! excitement everywhere, supply floods the market, prices collapse, and suddenly the promise disappears.

That is the reality many new and emerging crops face.The question is: how do we build an enabling ecosystem that helps promising crops move from hype to sustainable commercial opportunity?

This is one of the conversations we will be having at the inaugural Africa Fruit Connect 2026, from 6–8 October at the Oshwal Centre, Nairobi.

Come and meet Nirav, Director Palora Dragons and a dragon fruit farmer growing on 11 acres, with 40 different varieties that fruit at different times of the year, ensuring that he has fruit all year round. Participants will also have an opportunity to visit his farm in Isinya during the field visit on 8th October.

There is much to learn about how we research, grow, market and mainstream under-utilised and emerging fruits before opportunity is lost.
