The Guardian Post recently featured IPSD-Cameroon's work in the Mbororo community of Bantoum I.

From commemorating the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples to empowering pastoralists on rangelands restoration, we continue to work alongside Indigenous communities to preserve their knowledge and way of life.

Celebration of the 32nd edition of the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples in Bantoum 1, West Region of Cameroon. The theme for this edition is "Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding life and well-being". IPSD organized a community dialogue with the Indigenous Mbororo women and men, who shared knowledge and experiences as well as challenges on midwifery, food systems, pastoralism, and other cultural aspects. They were also sensitized on their rights according to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and other legal instruments. It was also an opportunity for the women to showcase their traditional utensils, arts and craftwork, food, among others.

Today we celebrate the wisdom, resilience, and rich heritage of Indigenous peoples around the world. 🌍

This year's theme, "Honoring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being," reminds us of the vital role Indigenous women play in preserving traditional healthcare and passing knowledge to future generations.

IPSD stands with Indigenous communities in their efforts to protect their cultures, knowledge, and ways of life.

Restoring rangelands by planting improved pastures in Bantoum 1, West Region of Cameroon

Restoring rangelands in Bantoum 1, West Region.

IPSD-Cameroon and the Mbororo Indigenous Peoples planted improved species of pastures, “Brachiaria”. Livestock will feed on these pastures, and milk productivity will increase. This activity will equally help to fight against land degradation and the invasion of rangelands by alien species. Our environment and nature are our home. Let's continue to care for our planet.

Domestication of medicinal plants for the treatment of humans and livestock. Indigenous Peoples are custodians of knowledge to prevent and cure various ailments and for ethnoverterinary uses. With the advent of climate change, some plant species are disappearing, reasons why IPSD deemed it necessary to plant these medicinal plants in the community so that they can be used in homes while serving as a learning and research garden for Indigenous youth and children. We need to transmit and preserve our knowledge for current and future use. This activity is carried out with the support and collaboration of the GEF Small Grants Program under the project Indigenous Knowledge preservation for a sustainable future.

Indigenous Knowledge is key to our health; survival and climate action reasons why the project Indigenous Knowledge preservation for a sustainable future aims to valorize Indigenous Knowledge transmit and preserve this knowledge for sustainable development.
