CNYC DONGAMANTUNG DIVISION DENOUNCES POST-ELECTORAL VIOLENCE, CALLS FOR PEACE AMONG YOUTH,
Dongamantung, Cameroon – October 19, 2025
The Cameroon National Youth Council (CNYC) for the Dongamantung Division, led by President NDZI Etienne NGAH, has issued a firm warning to the youth against the rising calls for post-electoral violence circulating on social media. This warning specifically addresses incendiary videos urging attacks on businesses owned by Bamiléké traders following the presidential election on October 12, 2025.
Rejecting Violence and the Myth of Foreign Intervention
In a strongly articulated communiqué, the CNYC President expressed deep gratitude to the youth who participated peacefully in the electoral process, praising their "civic maturity" and commitment to democracy. However, the Council reported alarming "divisive videos" allegedly propagated by frustrated supporters of the FNSC party, inciting youth to engage in "barbaric acts" against Bamiléké businesses, which are being unjustly labeled as “traitors.”
The CNYC categorically rejected these calls for violence, challenging the misguided notion that chaos could compel foreign intervention to declare a preferred candidate as the winner. They emphasized that electoral disputes must be resolved through "legal, constitutional, and diplomatic channels—not through disorder and bloodshed."
Understanding the Socio-Economic Impact
The youth leadership highlighted the severe socio-economic consequences of such violence, urging adherence to the national ethos of "unity and coexistence." They reminded the youth that the Bamiléké community is a vital part of the local economy, providing essential livelihoods for many families, including their own neighbors.
The Council warned that acts of destruction would not bring about political change but would instead deepen economic hardship, raising unemployment and poverty levels among the youth. They cautioned that those engaging in violence would face "the full weight of the law," jeopardizing their future for empty promises.
A Call for Peace and Legal Solutions
In a concluding appeal, the CNYC urged all Youth Leaders and young people in the Dongamantung Division to remain "calm, sober, and measured." They encouraged youth to "disassociate themselves from this vicious cycle of violence" and to reject manipulation from those who do not value their lives.
President Ngah emphasized that true strength lies in peace, stating, "Our power lies not in the fire we ignite, but in the peace we maintain." The Council urged those with grievances to seek redress through "lawful and peaceful means," reiterating the crucial message: "Peace is what we must pursue; violence is not the answer." They concluded their message by calling on the youth to protect their communities and the future of Cameroon.
