Dans le cadre du projet de Goethe-Institut Kamerun, soutenu par le Ministère fédéral allemand des Affaires étrangères, Civic Watch Cameroon et Youth Actions for Development Foundation (YADEF) commémorent la Journée internationale des Nations Unies de lutte contre les discours de haine en vous invitant à rejoindre notre campagne en ligne d’une semaine et à prendre position en faveur de la paix, du respect et d’une citoyenneté numérique responsable.

From June 8–9, Civic Watch Cameroon partnered with Paradigm Initiative to host the 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 and the 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 for journalists and media professionals.

The two-day workshop brought together journalists, civil society organizations, policymakers, and human rights defenders to discuss the state of digital rights in Cameroon and explore ways to strengthen the protection of fundamental freedoms online.

Together with participants, we examined how local policies and frameworks align with international human rights standards, particularly regarding freedom of expression, privacy, and access to information.

We are grateful to all participants and partners who contributed to these important conversations.

Building require collaboration, and we remain committed to advancing digital rights for all.

Happy New Week

Last week, Civic Watch Cameroon, represented by Nange Mbehni, attended a two-day workshop from the 3rd to the 4th of June, organized by Reconciliation and Development Association -RADA with support from CIVICUS on 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 " 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧".

The event brought together state representatives, human rights defenders, and more than 30 civil society organizations to discuss challenges facing CSOs in Cameroon, including restrictions and suspensions, as well as the difficulties the government faces in working with CSOs.

While dissecting this crucial topic, dialogue and communication were identified as the main barriers to effective CSO-State collaboration.

Civic Watch was selected with other CSOs to draft the Framework for Engagement between the State and Civil Society Actors in Cameroon.

We remain committed to promoting human rights protection, freedom of expression, and constructive engagement with the state.

We appreciate the organizers for such a thoughtful initiative.
