Celebrating the International Day of the older with Sustainable Impact in Tiko

On the occasion of the International Day of the Elderly, Sustain Afric, in partnership with the Sub-Divisional Delegation of Social Affairs in Tiko, organized a capacity-building workshop for elders in the Tiko Subdivision.

The focus of the workshop was Sustainable Snail Farming—an accessible and eco-friendly livelihood opportunity tailored to the needs and capabilities of the elderly. Participants were trained on practical techniques for snail cultivation, with emphasis on low-cost methods, environmental sustainability, and long-term income generation.

We also highlighted the health benefits of snail consumption for older adults, including:

🐌 High protein content to support muscle maintenance

🐌 Rich in iron and calcium, essential for bone health

🐌 Low in fat and cholesterol, promoting heart health

🐌 Source of essential amino acids and vitamins, boosting overall vitality

This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering elderly citizens with sustainable skills that enhance both their well-being and economic resilience.

Why Sustainable Agriculture Matters for Cameroon's Future

From the rich volcanic soils of Tiko to the fertile plains of the North, Cameroon's agricultural potential is immense. But are we farming for today, or for tomorrow?

At Sustain AFRIC, we believe in sustainable agriculture – practices that protect our land, ensure food security, and empower our farmers for generations.

It’s about more than just crops; it's about preserving our heritage and securing our future against climate change.

This lady went viral after posting about the possibility of earning over 43 million francs from a hectare of ginger.

Here’s what she wrote:

"Since January this year (2025), a bag of ginger like the one in the slide has sold for 150k and sometimes even 180k.

A single hectare takes between 29 and 32 bags of seedlings when properly planted.

That same hectare, if well handled and followed up—especially with the use of organic fertilizers—can yield a minimum of 180 bags of fresh ginger. Sometimes, it goes up to 240 bags.

Give me a single reason to give up farming in pursuit of another job.

Own a farm, e get why."

Her name is Farming with Ann . She shares unedited photos and videos of her life as a farmer. She has inspired so many young people to engage in agriculture. She needs some words of encouragement from you.
