🌱💚 World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought 2026💚🌱
RuWCED Joins the Call to Protect Our Land this June 17th as we mark the World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought 2026 under the theme:
🌳“Rangelands: Recognize. Respect. Restore.”🌳

RuWCED’s commitment on this day is to:
💚 Recognize the value of our land and rangelands in the Northwest.
💚 Respect traditional stewards, farmers, and communities who’ve managed soil sustainably for generations.
💚 Restore through tree planting, sustainable land management, soil conservation, and protecting water sources.

From our WASH work to environmental protection, RuWCED believes land restoration starts at home. Every tree planted, every gully stopped, every community protecting its watershed is a stand against desertification.

✨ Your small action + our collective action = land restored.

🎉 Happy 36th International Day of the African Child! 🎉 Commemorated every 16th June✨

Today RuWCED joined stakeholders at Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS) in Bamenda to celebrate African children.

Highlights from today’s commemoration:
📍 There was a presentation of results from our visits to water projects, showing the real impact of water points on children’s health, school attendance, and safety.

📍RuWCED Joins Key Stakeholders to Develop GBV Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in Buea✨

A three-day workshop, taking place in Buea from June 14–16, 2026 has brought together key stakeholders committed to strengthening coordinated responses to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) across Cameroon.

✨RuWCED, represented by its Lead Nurse and GBV Officer, Yimtsa Loveline was actively involved in group sessions presentations. participation underscores

👍The workshop provides a platform for in-depth learning, experience sharing, and the joint drafting of SOPs that will guide organizations in delivering survivor-centered, confidential, and timely support to survivors of gender-based violence.

Once finalized, the SOPs will help harmonize referral pathways, clarify the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, and strengthen coordination mechanisms to ensure that no survivor is left behind.👍

The workshop is convened by UNFPA, WACameroon, and TeenAlive Cameroon and focuses on the development of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

💧 Water Is Not a Luxury. For Every Child in Africa, It’s a Right!

This week, as part of activities marking the Day of the African Child on 16th June, the Ministry of Social Affairs, RuWCED and other organizations in Bamenda went on ground. We toured water projects to see the real impact of water points on children’s lives.

RuWCED's Vocational Training Institute equally hosted the team as they assessed the borehole right at our center.

This is Important because In this era, taps have gone thirsty more often than people have.
1️⃣ Children are missing school because they’re walking miles to fetch water
2️⃣ Girls are risking their safety on lonely paths, to fetch water
3️⃣ Families are choosing between water and food, between hygiene and survival

That’s exactly why we all need to push for borehole facilities. Not just any water point. Reliable, community-managed boreholes that give communities ownership so the water keeps flowing in all seasons.

Note that this year, we are commemorating under the Theme: “Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa”

🚰“Ensuring Universal Access to Water💧, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa” is the theme of this year's Day of the African Child (DAC)👧👦

This week, as part of weeklong activities marking the Day of the African Child on 1️⃣6️⃣th June, RuWCED joined other stakeholders in Bamenda on the frontlines of change. We’ve been out carrying out sensitisation on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) especially for children.

During this campaign, the RuWCED team – alongside the Ministry of Social Affairs and other organizations in Bamenda, used our Women’s Health Programme🗣️ on Abakwa FM Radio📻 99.0 MHz to take the conversation into homes.

On air, we broke down 2 critical things:
1️⃣ Community responsibility for WASH: How every member can protect water sources, keep toilets clean, wash hands properly, and stop open defecation. Clean water starts with community action.
2️⃣ Sexual & Reproductive Health around WASH: For adolescent girls, lack of private, clean toilets and water means missed school days every month. Poor WASH increases risk of infections and GBV. When we fix WASH in schools and communities, we protect girls’ health, education, and future.

The message is simple:
This Day of the African Child, let’s move beyond speeches. Let’s ensure every child wakes up to running water, safe toilets, and the chance to learn without fear.

🌍 Happy World Environment Day 2026 🌍
Theme: "Inspired by Nature, for Climate, for our Future"

RuWCED joined other Environmental stakeholders to commemorate this day at the Regional Delegation of Environment in Bamenda. The take home message was:
"No organization, institution, government, or individual can protect the environment alone. Together, we can make it happen."

Environmental protection isn’t a once-a-year hashtag. It’s not just for June 5th. The planet doesn’t take days off from pollution, deforestation, or climate change. And neither can we take days off from protecting it.

Any tree we plant today needs water tomorrow. Any river we clean today needs us to stop dumping in it next week. Any soil we restore today needs organic practices, not shortcuts that kill it long-term.

During the event, RuWCED presented on a subject close to our heart: "women’s role in environmental sustainability".

In the rural communities we serve, women are the primary farmers, water collectors, and caretakers of the land. When the soil degrades, women feel it first in their farms and kitchens.

Today, let’s make a choice beyond the celebration:
Plant the tree. Water it tomorrow. Choose organic over chemical. Teach your neighbor. Speak up at community meetings.

🌱 ✨RuWCED launched World Environment Day 2026 with other environmental stakeholders by Planting a Tree✨ 🌱

We started where it matters most, at the heart of the community. We donated trees to the Mendankwe Palace.

After the donation, we rolled up our sleeves for a symbolic tree planting exercise right on palace grounds. Led by the Fon, everyone stood together cheering as the tree was planted.

But here’s the message we’re carrying home from today:
"Planting a tree is the easy part. Keeping it alive is the real work."

Anyone can dig a hole and put a seedling in the ground for a photo. The difference between a campaign and real impact is what happens after.
🌳 Follow-up watering during dry season
🌳 Protecting young trees from animals and fire
🌳 Community ownership so every tree has a guardian
🌳 Tracking growth, not just counting numbers planted

We believe that when communities take ownership and follow up, we get shade, cleaner air, better soil, and a safer climate for our children.

This World Environment Day, let’s move beyond “one-day planting” to “every-day responsibility.” Every tree we plant is a promise to the next generation. And promises only matter if we keep them.💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

✨To get a single pad, some of these young girls are walking extra miles before school, doing casual labor after class, or selling small items in the market to afford basic menstrual hygiene🩸.

If they can find a way, what excuse do we have?🤷‍♀️

It might be a new month, but our message at RuWCED stays the same and it’s non-negotiable: Say No🙅‍♀️ to Gender-Based Violence by becoming economically independent.

Here’s the hard truth we see in the communities we serve:
When a woman or girl depends on someone else for the smallest needs (even a pad), she gives away her power to say “NO”.

👉Dependence creates silence.
👉Silence creates vulnerability.
👉And vulnerability is where GBV excels.

🤝Let's support our young girls to become economically independent today and break the cycle where "he pays, he decides".

🩸 Menstruation Isn’t Just a “Women’s Thing” and that’s Why We All Need to Talk About It 🩸

Let’s say it loud and clear: Menstruation is not a women’s issue alone. It’s a human issue.

At RuWCED, we’ve seen it firsthand in the rural communities we serve: when men and boys are included in menstrual health education, attitudes shift. Girls stay in school. Women speak up. Families support each other.

This World Menstrual Hygiene Day, ask yourself: what role will you play?

Meanwhile, below is a snippet of how we commemorated the day🥰🩸👇

🩸
A period-friendly world means:
1️⃣ Access to affordable, safe menstrual products and clean water
2️⃣ Education that breaks the stigma and teaches girls and boys about menstrual health
3️⃣ Safe spaces where no girl has to miss school or feel ashamed because of her cycle
4️⃣ Community support where women and girls lead the conversation

When communities talk openly about menstruation, we break the cycle of shame for the next generation 🌍. Our radio program for the week centered on menstruation and Menstrual Hygiene Management as we commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026🥰

This 28th May, join us in pushing for a world where no one is held back by their period. Together, we can make it happen.
