Volunteerism is the backbone of community development.

Today, we spotlight one of our incredible volunteers at Belie Health Foundation — Mefor Zenny

Before becoming a volunteer, Zenny was herself a beneficiary of several of our programs — including the BHF Youth Lead initiative.

Today, she is giving back to the community through the very services she once received.

This is the beauty of what we do — we grow together.

You too can be part of this story.

Join our team, become a volunteer, and together, let's commit to building healthier, stronger communities.

𝗕𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗧𝗼

Every child deserves at least one safe adult in their life; someone they trust enough to say, "I need help." That adult could be you.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻

📌Listen without reacting.

When a child comes to you, your first job is to hear them out and not to panic, lecture, or immediately problem-solve. A calm presence tells them they made the right choice coming to you.

📌 Believe them.

Children rarely make up stories about difficult situations. Saying "I believe you" and "Thank you for telling me" can mean everything to a child who has been carrying something heavy alone.

📌Create open doors, not interrogations.

You don't have to wait for a crisis. Simple, consistent check-ins like "How are you really doing?" builds the trust that makes children comfortable speaking up when it matters most.

📌 Keep your promises, especially about safety.

If a child shares something that requires action, be honest with them about what steps you may need to take. Don't promise secrecy you can't keep but do promise that you will always act in their best interest.

📌Be consistent.

Safe adults show up regularly, not just in emergencies. The child who sees you as dependable today is the child who will come to you tomorrow when they're afraid.

You may never know the full weight of what a child is carrying but your willingness to be present, patient, and non-judgmental could be the very thing that changes the course of their story. Be that safe place. 💛

This is precisely why Belie Health Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing this critical issue.

Through targeted programs and initiatives like the Y4CSE, we work tirelessly to raise awareness, break the silence, support and empower survivors, and ultimately prevent sexual and gender-based violence.

Children will speak up but only when they feel safe, seen, heard, and supported.

This powerful truth anchored our intergenerational dialogue, uniting parents, educators, and community members around a shared purpose.

Watch how families are navigating the barriers to open communication and what it takes to break them down.

"My parents are so busy, they hardly even make time for us. Either work, come home late, farm, meetings,… it's always one thing or the other. So, I just keep to myself," says Sally, a student at one of the schools where BHF implements its Youths4CSE program.

Age-appropriate, evidence-based teaching about bodies, relationships, consent, communication, and sexual health that evolves as children grow.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞:

✍️Protection: Children who understand boundaries and appropriate behavior can better recognize and report abuse.

✍️Informed decisions: Educated youth tend to delay sexual activity and practice safer behaviors when they do become active.

✍️Trust and communication: Starting conversations early establishes parents as the go-to source for questions, not peers or the internet.

✍️Navigating misinformation: With easy access to po*******hy and online content, children need guidance to understand healthy, realistic relationships.

The key is ongoing, age-appropriate conversations (not one awkward talk), that build understanding and trust over time.

This week let's all get involved: educators, parents, social worker, community and religious leaders...everyone.

Today, we recognize the fundamental right to sexual and reproductive health for all.

At Belie Health Foundation, this isn't just a day of awareness—it's our daily commitment.

We're working to break down barriers that prevent young people from accessing accurate, judgment-free information about their bodies, their health, and their futures.

Through community education and youth-centered programs, we're creating spaces where adolescents can ask questions, learn, and make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

Our past works and recent work in Muea demonstrates what's possible when we meet young people where they are—in their communities, speaking their language, addressing their real concerns.

We're not just sharing information; we're building confidence, dispelling myths, and empowering the next generation to take charge of their health.

Because everyone deserves access to the knowledge and services that protect their health and dignity.

What happens when parents, educators, community members, and adolescents come together to openly discuss the barriers that prevent young people from speaking up about sexual and gender-based violence?

This was the vision behind the intergenerational dialogue hosted by Team BHFSUVAR as their final activity under the Phase II of their project "Breaking the Silence: Community-Led Action to End R**e in Muea"

Adolescents and parents showed remarkable courage in sharing their challenges, but the conversation went beyond just listening.

Participants exchanged best practices and left with a strengthened commitment to breaking the silence around SGBV and r**e while better protecting the children and adolescents of Muea.

We're grateful to The Post for covering this important community-focused event.

Immense thanks to Rescue Women Cameroon for making this dialogue possible through their funding.

A shocking reality: 56% of young women aged 15-19 in Cameroon have experienced pregnancy at least once. This is about 6 in 10 girls

This isn't just a statistic; it's our daughters, our sisters, our neighbors in Muea and Buea.

The lack of comprehensive sexuality education is fueling this crisis:

● Many adolescents lack basic knowledge about their sexual and reproductive health

● Harmful sexual practices continue due to silence, stigma, and misinformation

● Young girls are making life-altering decisions without the information they need

When young people don't have access to accurate, age-appropriate sexuality education, they can't make informed decisions about their bodies and futures.

The consequences are devastating:
● Interrupted education,
● Health complications, and
● Limited economic opportunities.

It's time for change.

Comprehensive sexuality education isn't about promoting sexual activity—it's about empowering our youth with knowledge, building healthy decision-making skills, and protecting their futures.

Every adolescent deserves the information and support they need to stay healthy and achieve their dreams.

That is why Youths For Comprehensive Sexuality Education (Y4CSE) by Belie Health Foundation continues to run amongst students and communities in Buea. We are building healthier futures for Muea's youth

Happy New Week! 🌟

This week is a fresh opportunity to prioritize YOUR health and well-being.

Remember, taking care of your sexual and reproductive health isn't just responsible—it's an act of self-love and empowerment.

This week we remind ourselves of the need adolescents have to access accurate information, respectful care, and the confidence to make healthy decisions.

We're committed to this and we're here to support you every step of the way to achieve better adolescent sexual and reproductive health

Let's make this week count! 💪✨

The second phase activity under Team BHFSUVAR's project "Breaking the Silence: Community-Led Action to End R**e in Muea" reached a significant milestone:

📍 5 schools engaged
🎯 5 r**e awareness campaigns conducted
👥 700+ children directly impacted
🌊 2,000+ community members indirectly reached

These young people now understand their rights and can identify safe versus unsafe situations. More importantly, they know how to break the silence—whether by speaking with trusted educators and elders or calling designated hotlines when they need support.

Every child who finds their voice is a step toward ending sexual violence in our community.

Together, we're building a future where speaking up is not the exception, but the norm.
