PROXY Foundation

PROXY Foundation Proxy Foundation is a Cameroon based non profit organisation that supports the woman and girl child against traditional and other social malpractices.

Proxy Foundation is a Cameroon based association that supports the woman and girl child against traditional and social malpractices that affect them directly or indirectly. It comprises of young men and women who have the strong conviction that the woman and the girl child should be given fair treatment before the law and the tradition alike. Proxy Foundation brings together scholars, doctors, bus

iness men and women, etc. who have been dedicating their time and efforts in the fight for the right of the woman and the girl child. These men and women came together through the initiative of the founder Mrs Tarh Martha Ako Mfortem whose professional life has permitted her to discover the injustice faced by the woman and the girl child in our society as result of harmful traditional and social beliefs. Mrs Tarh who has worked in the interior parts of Cameroon, found herself confronted with situations where female children were deprived from going to school and even pushed to early marriages and some had their breasts deformed as a result of Breast ironing. These and others that affect the woman and the girl child did not leave her indifferent and thus the motivation and drive behind her vision that led to the creation of Proxy Foundation. Established in 2012, Proxy Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of the woman and the girl child in Cameroon through research programs, community development programmes, education and advocacy. We strive to see a society where the woman and the girl child are treated accordingly in the image of God the creator. The rights of the woman and the girl child should be well defended and promoted at all places of the society as a guarantee for a future generation where the woman is regarded of great value as the man. Proxy foundation is being managed by an executive board and headed by the Ceo (Mrs Tarh Martha Ako Mfortem). The executive is responsible for the day to day running of the foundation. It depends entirely on donations and contributions of its members for its success. Through our research, we have identified four key issues; Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), Child Marriage, Breast Ironing, Maltreatment of widows and orphans as urgent issues that affect the Cameroonian woman and girl child. To this end, our key focus areas are challenging malpractices against women and helping them to stand for their rights. We strive to empower the woman and the girl child in modern techniques and developmental methods that can equip them to be self-reliant and independent. Our goal is to educate the society where these practices are carried out, the ills they present to the woman and girl child, and empowering women to achieve a better quality of life for themselves and their families.
