SASSE COLLEGE CELEBRATES ITS 85th ANNIVERSARY

Dear SOBANS across the world,

Today, February 1, 2024, our Alma Mater — Saint Joseph’s College Sasse, turns 85

Each year, we make it a point of honour to commemorate this key milestone in the history of our beloved college founded on February 1, 1939.

To mark this year’s celebration, we have designed some artworks and graphics which will make our celebrations special and unique.

We enjoin you to share these on your social media and digital platforms (Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, WhatsApp, etc…) and also on all SOBA groups and fora.

Let’s make this day a special one for our towering Alma Mater.

85 years later, on the shoulders of Buea Mountain, Sasse College like a Sphinx, still overlooks the sea.

Sasse continues to shine a bright light, inspiring us through excellence and leadership.

For generations to come, Sasse will always be our source of hope and knowledge , as it enshrined in us, principles to mold our lives.

Dear SOBANs in Cameroon and around the world — On November 25, 2023 at our Alma Mater in Sasse College, we have another interesting, passionate and exciting date with history.

We will be called upon to elect the next batch of conscious and responsible leaders to steer the ship of SOBA including our individual and collective interests for the next three-year mandate.

For the last three years, Ayuk Iyok Sammy Pride and his team have been doing a sterling job to give a new lease of life to our association.

Two things stand out prominently during Ayuk’s mandate which we will be renewing in eight days:

1. The Ayuk Iyok-led team has been able to build and mold consensus across SOBA representations and chapters in Cameroon and around the world. This is evidenced in the cordial relationships with SOBANs in the diaspora including SOBA America and the much-heralded and acclaimed outreach program, SOBA America day.

2. The Ayuk Iyok administration has continued to garner support from the school administration and the Catholic Education authorities with the benediction of his Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi. This has helped SOBA to have a direct impact on the college with the excellent results at the GCE exams serving as an eloquent testimony.

As we wait for the electoral committee to approve the list of SOBANS who will be working alongside Ayuk Iyok, please take stock of the administration’s key milestones in the flyer above and make informed decisions that will continue to place SOBA and Sasse College as a beacon of excellence amongst alumni associations and colleges.

For the glory of the unborn, Sasse and SOBA through Ayuk’s leadership still guarantees operational excellence, visionary leadership and confidence.

Construction has proved no easy task, but we’ve tolled and worked with prudence, thanks to your support. With this enthusiasm still burning, we are pumped and ready for the challenge ahead.

SOBA Executive Council and New Sasse College Principal Poised to Collaborate as 2023-24 Academic Year Tips-Off

The Executive Council of the Sasse Old Boys Association (SOBA) and the new Principal of Saint Joseph’s College Sasse, Buea have pledged to collaborate to raise the standards of discipline, hygiene, staff and the student welfare and the overall academic performance of the college ahead of the 2023-24 academic year which tips off on September 4.

The SOBA Executive council led by President General Ayuk Iyok accompanied by Secretary General Kebei Eugene, Treasurer General Dr. Engr. Ebob Eta Kwame and Public Relations Officer Edwin Eselem made the resolution after a courtesy visit to the college campus to discuss the state-of-the-alma mater with the newly appointed principal Rev. Fr. Jude Njanto.

In the over two-hour chat with the new boss of the college, both parties listened to the collective ambitions of the new college administration and the SOBA executive to continue to steer the ship of Sasse College in the right direction.

The meeting was on the recommendation of the Proprietor of Sasse College His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi who urged both parties to work together for the common good of the college.

After a quick introduction of the mandate of the Ayuk Iyok-led administration and their role as an important stakeholder in Sasse College, the four-man SOBA delegation listened to the vision of the new principal which was laden with huge prospects and positive ambitions for Sasse College.

The new Principal stressed the need to continue the work started by his predecessor in making Sasse a beacon of excellence in secondary education in Cameroon.

Among the litany of projects and action points, Rev. Fr. Njanto noted the following to be executed during his mandate:

1. Reinforced discipline on campus
2. Step up the level of hygiene and sanitation
3. Ameliorate student and staff welfare
4. Put in place an award and recognition mechanism for top students and staff
5. Inscribe meritorious students in the college wall/hall of fame
6. Provide greater access to clean and potable water on campus
7. Frequently engage with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)
8. Create new, innovative and diverse recreational and creative platforms for students
9. Better regulate and manage SOBA/class projects
10. Position Sasse as a reference in Secondary education in Cameroon

Both parties pledged their mutual support in the operational ex*****on of the action plan. The SOBA Executive council promised to take the lead in briefing SOBANs whenever necessary on specific actions which needed their attention.
