A SWEET FINALE: HOLIDAY WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS PREPARE CLOSING CEREMONY CAKE.

The Kumba I Council Holiday Workshop 2026 officially comes to an end today, Friday, August 21, with a closing ceremony scheduled to begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the Kumba I Council Hall.

As part of the preparations for this special occasion, the young participants spent the day yesterday putting their baking skills to the test as they prepared and decorated a special closing ceremony cake.

From measuring ingredients and preparing the cake batter to baking, icing and decorating, the children actively participated in the different stages of the process. What started as a practical lesson has now produced a beautiful cake that will take centre stage at todayโ€™s celebration.

The finished cake will be presented to parents, guardians and members of the public during the closing ceremony, offering everyone an opportunity to appreciate the creativity and practical skills acquired by the children throughout the workshop.

Join us at the Kumba I Council Hall from 10:00 a.m. prompt as we celebrate the achievements of our young participants and officially bring the 2026 Holiday Workshop to a close.

Nkamlikum FC Hold Their Nerve to Eliminate Mabongise on Penalties

Nkamlikum FC have booked their place in the semi-finals of the Kumba I Council Inter-Quarter Football Championship 2026 after a dramatic penalty-shootout victory over Mabongise FC in the second quarter-final played yesterday at the Government Practicing School (GPS) Field.

The encounter produced a thrilling contest between two determined sides, with neither team able to break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes. The first half ended 0โ€“0, setting the stage for an increasingly tense second half.

Mabongise finally found the breakthrough after the restart, putting themselves in front and appearing on course for a place in the last four. Nkamlikum, however, refused to surrender. They fought back and found the equalizer in the closing minutes of the second half, sending the match into extra time at 1โ€“1.

Extra time produced no further goals, leaving the quarter-final to be decided from the penalty spot.

It was there that Nkamlikumโ€™s goalkeeper emerged as the hero of the night. Showing admirable composure and focus, the shot-stopper stood tall between the posts as Nkamlikum converted their opportunities and eventually triumphed 3โ€“0 on penalties.

The victory sparked celebrations among the Nkamlikum camp, while Mabongiseโ€™s players were left to rue a match that had slipped from their grasp after taking the lead.

The outstanding performance of Nkamlikumโ€™s goalkeeper did not go unnoticed. He was deservedly named Man of the Match for his crucial contribution in guiding his side through the decisive penalty shootout.

With the victory, Nkamlikum FC join Town Green FC, Kumba Blood FC and Young Strikers of Mbonge Road in the semi-final line-up.

Four teams remain. One trophy awaits.

Young Strikers Edge Dubai Centre on Penalties to Book Semi-Final Place.

Young Strikers of Mbonge Road have secured their place in the semi-finals of the Kumba I Council Inter-Quarter Football Championship after overcoming Dubai Centre FC 4โ€“1 on penalties in a tense quarter-final encounter played today at the Government Practicing School (GPS) Field in Kumba.

The first quarter-final clash lived up to its billing, with both sides displaying determination and defensive discipline throughout regulation time. Despite several attempts at goal, neither team could find the breakthrough as the match ended 0โ€“0 after full time.

With the deadlock refusing to yield, the contest proceeded to a penalty shootout to determine who would advance to the last four. Young Strikers kept their composure from the spot, converting their chances with confidence to prevail 4โ€“1 on penalties over Dubai Centre FC.

The victory sends Young Strikers into the semi-finals, where they join Town Green FC and Kumba Blood FC, who had already secured their places in the next round.

For his outstanding performance and contribution to his teamโ€™s hard-fought victory, Sako Abraham of Young Strikers of Mbonge Road was named Man of the Match.

Kumba I Council Interns Gain Practical Insights into Budgeting and Treasury Management

Interns at the Kumba I Council have gained meaningful insights into municipal budgeting, revenue generation and treasury management during an informative session with the Municipal Treasurer, Mr. Sona Makia.

The session which took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Council Conference Hall, was convened by the Municipal Treasurer to provide the interns with a practical understanding of how the Council prepares, manages and executes its budget.

Opening the session, Mr. Sona Makia explained the meaning and importance of a budget, describing it as a key instrument for planning and managing the activities and resources of the Council.

He further highlighted some of the major sources of revenue for the Council, including taxation, rents from Council properties and government grants. These resources, he explained, are mobilised to finance Council activities and development projects aimed at improving living conditions within the municipality.

The Municipal Treasurer also took the interns through the different stages involved in the elaboration and approval of the Council budget. He explained that the Mayor is responsible for preparing the draft budget, which is subsequently presented to the Municipal Council for consideration and adoption. Once voted, the budget is submitted to the appropriate supervisory authority for approval before being returned to the Council for ex*****on.

A key principle discussed during the session was the principle of annuality, which stipulates that the Council budget is prepared and executed over a period of one year.

Mr. Sona Makia also explained the allocation of the Councilโ€™s budget, noting that 40 percent is earmarked for investment, while 60 percent is allocated to the running of the Councilโ€™s activities.

The interactive nature of the meeting gave the interns an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on issues relating to municipal finances, revenue collection, budget preparation and ex*****on. The explanations provided by the Municipal Treasurer helped address their concerns and gave them a clearer understanding of how public resources are managed at the local government level.

The session formed part of the Councilโ€™s commitment to ensuring that interns gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical exposure to the different departments and operations of the local authority.

For the interns, the encounter was an enriching learning experience, providing them with first-hand knowledge of the financial mechanisms that support the functioning and development of Kumba I Municipality.
