From the labs of the University of Buea to the classrooms of Bafoussam, one woman is proving that brilliance is not a fixed trait, but an evolving capacity. This month, STEM Girls Connect is proud to spotlight Dr. Agbor Evelyn, a leader who is "lifting as she climbs."

Dr. Evelyn holds a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Buea, a Teacher's Diploma in Biology from the Higher Teacher Training College Bambili, an MSc in Applied Parasitology and Vector Biology from the University of Bamenda, and a PhD in Food Processing Technology from the African Centre of Excellence for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER), Benue State University, Makurdi, a World Bank sponsored centre of excellence. A continuous learner at heart, she has earned multiple certifications through platforms including Unitar, Coursera, FAO, and YALI, one of which earned her the title of Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals in February 2024.

As a Biology teacher at the Government Bilingual High School Bafoussam and a passionate food technologist, Dr. Evelyn specializes in developing innovative, safe, and sustainable food products with a clear mission: mitigating postharvest losses and contributing to SDG 2, Zero Hunger. Her entrepreneurial spirit gave birth to AKA Foods, a business that transforms and packages locally harvested food crops into semi-finished and finished products, extending shelf life and improving food security in her community.

But Dr. Evelyn's impact goes far beyond the lab and the classroom. Driven by a deep zeal for female education, she founded Meet The Girl-MTG Cameroon, a nonprofit dedicated to encouraging girls to pursue careers in STEM and equipping them with income-generating skills for long-term sustainability. Visit them at ๐ŸŒ www.meetthegirlcameroon.org. She has also established a STEM Club in her school and has trained more than 100 youths in food transformation and entrepreneurship, proof that her investment in the next generation is not just a passion, it is a practice.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Her message to young girls in STEM:
"Keep chasing your curiosity and never doubt your ability to succeed in STEM. Do not be afraid of failure, we learn from mistakes. Don't let your background pull you down. Your ideas matter. Your voice is powerful. The future of innovation needs girls like you."

She is a teacher, a scientist, an entrepreneur, and a movement builder. Isn't she absolutely phenomenal?

Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating! ๐ŸŒ™

This day belongs to you. To every soul that woke up before dawn, that chose patience over comfort, that whispered prayers in the quiet of the night. Ramadan was not easy, and yet here you are.

May Allah accept every fast, every prayer, every act of sadaka, and every moment of devotion. May the generosity you showed this month come back to you in ways that warm your heart.

May this Eid bring peace to your heart, warmth to your home, and closeness to those you love. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’œ

The Dream Wasn't Too Big. The Information Was Too Small.

Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to change the direction of a life.

During a recent outreach in Bamenda, our team sat with students who were full of potential but had never been shown the full picture of what was possible for them. Some didn't even know they could pursue Engineering at university level. Not because they couldn't. But because nobody had ever told them they could.

That is what we are here for.

We don't just show up with information. We show up with possibility. And that moment where "I didn't know" becomes "I can" is exactly why this work matters.

Awareness is the first step to everything. When girls know better, they dream bigger. When they dream bigger, they build a better world.

A huge thank you to the Bamenda Branch for leading this initiative. ๐Ÿ™

BECAUSE WOMENโ€™S FREEDOM WAS NEVER GIVEN. IT WAS FOUGHT FOR.

Today, as we mark International Womenโ€™s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women around the world. But more importantly, we honor the struggle that made those achievements possible.

We remember the women who refused to accept silence.
The women who challenged systems that excluded them.
The women who marched, organized, educated, built, and resisted so that future generations could live with greater freedom.

Most importantly, we celebrate those who fought and those who are still fighting for the independence, liberation, and equality of women everywhere.

Because the opportunities many girls have today did not appear by chance. They exist because courageous women demanded them.

Now, that fight is ours to carry forward.

At STEM Girls Connect, we believe empowering girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is part of continuing that fight. When girls are encouraged to question, to innovate, and to lead in STEM, they are not just learning skills โ€“ they are claiming their place in shaping the future.

A future where women are not excluded from discovery.
A future where girls see themselves as scientists, engineers, innovators, and leaders.
A future where equality is not an aspiration, but a reality.

To every woman who opened doors.
To every woman walking through them today.
And to every girl preparing to build new ones tomorrow.

We celebrate you. We honor you. And we continue the journey with you.

๐Ÿ’œ Exploring the Future of STEM for the Benefit of All.

Happy new Month! ๐ŸŒธ

February was such a success for our community, and we are stepping into March with genuine excitement! There is a beautiful energy that comes with a fresh start, and as we "March" forward, we are ready to embrace the productivity and impact ahead.

And guess what? Itโ€™s International Womenโ€™s Month! โœจ It is time to celebrate the brilliance, the grit, and the groundbreaking innovations of women everywhere.

As we celebrate, remember: brilliance is not a fixed trait, but an evolving capacity. If you ever feel the crushing weight of high expectations or like you are "falling off," it is often just a sign that you must upgrade your efficiency to meet a larger world. Donโ€™t shrink your goals, simply refine your system to match the person you are becoming.

Update on our women weekly Spotlight Series ๐ŸŒŸ

To truly honor the women in our network, we are transitioning from a weekly to a Monthly STEM Woman Spotlight. Weโ€™ve realized that the phenomenal women we feature are doing work far too deep and expansive to be squeezed into a single week; they deserve to be celebrated all month long. We are excited to give these leaders the dedicated space they deserve!

Cheers to a month of steady productivity, joy, and meaningful impact. Letโ€™s get to work! ๐Ÿฅ‚.

They're never too young to dream big. ๐Ÿ’š

Today, we brought STEM to the youngest minds; primary school students who are just beginning to discover the world.

Hearing them shout "My brain is my superpower!" was pure delight.

Their eyes lit up with possibility.

Because inspiration starts early.

At STEM Girls Connect, we believe in nurturing curiosity from the very beginning. Before society tells them "that's not for girls." Before self-doubt creeps in. Before dreams get smaller.

As these girls grow, their bodies will change, society will send them new messages, and pressures will come. But if we build their confidence NOW โ€“ in their minds, their abilities, and their femininity; they'll stand strong.

We're planting seeds. And one day, these little girls will grow into the scientists, engineers, and innovators the world desperately needs.

Start them young. Watch them soar. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

12/02/2026

"What do you want to be in the future as a science student?"

"Doctor!" Most shouted.

"What if I told you science is also biotechnology, renewable energy, AI, environmental conservation, public health, building robots, creating apps and AI tools, sending people to Mars and more?"

Their eyes widened.

That's when we knew: we'd just expanded their world. โœจ

Day 1 of our School Outreach for International Day of Women & Girls in Science was a success! We met brilliant young minds and reminded them that only 30% of STEM professionals are women. NOT because girls aren't smart, but because of stereotypes.

But here's the real challenge: Many girls study science, but don't end up working in STEM. That's the gap we're closing.

At STEM Girls Connect, we don't just inspire girls to study science, we equip them to WORK in science through mentorship, skills training, and real opportunities.

We're changing that narrative. One school at a time.

The movement is JUST BEGINNING.
