Cameroon Leads the Way: Turning the ACHA ASPIRE Cervical Health Scorecard into a National Blueprint- A Historic Milestone for Cervical Cancer Elimination!

We are in AWE of the incredible momentum building in Cameroon!

The ACHA Cameroon Team led by Humanity at Heart International (H@H) and supported by ERADICARE Health Foundation is in absolute AWE of the visionary leadership within the Ministry of Public Health. Through the National Cancer Control Committee (NCCC), led by the inspiring and dynamic Dr. Zeh Kakanou Florence , the government has not only truly embraced the ACHA ASPIRE Cervical Health Scorecard but is actively spearheading its implementation as a national priority with full speed!
While rapid data extraction from existing sources is a start, it isn't enough to reflect Cameron’s authentic data towards cervical cancer elimination progress. Under the leadership of Dr. Zeh and the NCCC, we are on a quest to transition from traditional data reporting to a gold-standard National Data Audit. This evolution ensures that the ASPIRE Scorecard captures the full, authentic reality of our health landscape, leaving no data unreported. From the most remote communities across our 10 regions to the critical contributions of the private sector, we are meticulously tracking HPV vaccination, screening, and treatment to ensure every Cameroonian woman is accounted for.

While ACHA CSOs facilitate the process and provide grassroots accountability, the Ministry of Health owns this roadmap. This high-level political will from the outgoing PS Prof. Nkegoum Blaise to the current leadership Dr Zeh, ensures that our pilot isn't just a report, but a verified, actionable reality for every woman. We are fueled up, mobilized, and leaving no stone unturned. The path to cervical cancer elimination in Cameroon is now illuminated!
The energy at our recent March 4th, validation workshop was palpable! We extend our deepest gratitude to the multi-sectoral ministries, international partners, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) who turned out massively. This collective enthusiasm was instrumental in validating our country-context indicators, ensuring they are perfectly aligned with the WHO 90-70-90 global targets.
This indeed is an Advocacy Dream Realized!
Cameroon is more than ever on the quest for elimination. With a validated National Cervical Cancer Strategic Plan already in place and the ASPIRE Scorecard now in progress, we are seeing the very vision we have all been advocating for come to life. This is the moment where policy meets precision, and where government ownership meets grassroots passion.
Together, using the scorecard's traffic light accountability system, we are not just monitoring progress, we are accelerating it. The roadmap is clear, the political will is unwavering, and the elimination of cervical cancer in Cameroon is within our reach!

This February 4th, Humanity at Heart International joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Cancer Day under the global theme United by Unique .
Supported by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Patient Groups Mentoring programs (PGMP), Humanity at Heart leverage on this World Cancer Day to seek endorsement from over 65+ key stakeholders for the integration of a community led patient navigation program under the them Walk Bold Live strong campaign.
We had unique stories from breast and cervical cancer survivors, from government leaders including the Lord Mayor represented by his Deputy and General Secretary, the women empowerment sub divisional delegation, Youth sub delegate, Representation from the National Cancer Control Committee at the Ministry of Health, the regional delegate for public health Buea,the District Medical officer, Tiko, the chief medical officer for CDC, Religious leaders , health care practitioners, community health care workers...
This WALK BOLD LIVE STRONG Campaign started with a solidarity walk, and ended with a high policy level endorsement meeting for Humanity at Heart International 's community led patient navigation program at the Tiko Municipal hall

The Future of Cancer Care in Cameroon :

Awareness is a start, a Path to a Cure is the goal.

In the fight against cancer, awareness is only half the battle. The real tragedy isn't just a late diagnosis; it's a woman who knows she is sick but has no path to a cure.

In a fragmented healthcare system where essential services are scattered across different locations, patients often fall through the cracks.
At Humanity at Heart International (H@H), we are the bridge. We don't just point the way; we walk the distance. We are that Healing Holding Hands that patients need.

As we commemorate Cervical Cancer Awareness Month this January, educating our communities on cervical cancer prevention and early diagnosis; we are equally preparing for a massive milestone. On February 4th, World Cancer Day, we are proud to launch our "WALK BOLD, LIVE STRONG" campaign.
This initiative is uniquely supported by the UICC (Union for International Cancer Control) PGMP. Together, we are "United by Unique" to bring cervical and breast cancer navigation to the forefront of public health.

Observing and learning from the world-class Baheya hospital based Patient Navigation model thriving as a "One-Stop-Shop," in the past few weeks, our reality in Cameroon involves a fragmented system. So, our Community based Hybrid Patient Navigation Model is designed to link communities to health facilities and back to the community (community –facility-community through the continuum of care), ensuring no woman in Tiko or beyond is ever lost in the system.
This mission is powered by our "Army of Hope" a specialized volunteer force defined by 5 Pillars:
• 📢 Community Navigators (The Scouts): Local leaders finding women in markets, schools, Social gatherings and churches to bring them into the light of education.
• 🩺 Clinical Navigators (The Medics): Healthcare professionals who translate the medical- language into a clear, actionable plan.
• 👣 Physical Navigators (The Escorts): The hands and feet who physically accompany women through daunting hospital halls to ensure they reach their appointments.
• 💰 Resource Navigators (The Fixers): The dream-makers finding funds, food, and managing our "Adopt a Patient ' funds.
• 🌱 Empowerment Navigators (The Mentors): The heart of our “Rise and Thrive” program. They bring survivors together, providing the emotional and psycho- social support needed to start life fresh after the battle.
While UICC powers our "Walk Bold, Live Strong" campaign, the Humanity at Heart Patient Navigation and Wellness Center in Tiko is a permanent fixture designed for long-term impact. We are proving that this model works ensuring that survivorship isn't just a hope, but a programmed reality.
We invite the global health community, stakeholders, and visionaries to follow our journey this February. We are setting the gold standard for community-linked care.
Let's change the narrative from "fighting cancer" to "navigating to a cure."

Transforming Cancer Care:

I am thrilled to the successful conclusion of my learning exchange at the Baheya Foundation in Egypt, made possible through the generous support of the UICC Patient Group Mentoring Programme (PGMP).

Baheya’s "One-Stop Shop" model is the true essence of patient-centered care. In a world where healthcare can feel overwhelming, their system ensures no woman walks alone. From a warm reception to dedicated navigators who provide hand-holding through every stage of treatment and survivorship, the model is a masterclass in dignity and efficiency.

In Cameroon, our healthcare systems are often fragmented, creating barriers for those who need care most. At Humanity at Heart International, we are committed to bridging this gap. This visit has provided invaluable blueprints for our Virtual One-Stop Shop, ensuring we bring this same excellence directly to women in our communities.
