32e Congrès mondial de la FIJ : Marion Obam réélue au Comité exécutif

Du 4 au 7 mai 2026 s’est tenu à Paris le 32e Congrès mondial et du centenaire de la Fédération Internationale des Journalistes. Le Syndicat National des Journalistes du Cameroun y a pris une part active aux côtés de plus de 189 organisations syndicales venues du monde entier.
La camarade Marion Obam figurait parmi les 300 délégués issus des cinq continents ayant pris part à cette importante assise internationale.
Ce congrès marquait les 100 ans de la création de la FIJ, fondée à Paris en 1926. Placé sous le thème : « 100 ans de solidarité internationale pour un journalisme et un syndicalisme forts », cet événement historique avait pour objectif de définir les orientations futures de la profession face aux défis contemporains.
Les travaux ont été ouverts par la présidente sortante de la FIJ, Dominique Pradalié, suivie des interventions de Jim Boumelha et du rapport général présenté par Anthony Bellanger.
Plusieurs thématiques majeures ont été abordées au cours des expositions, tables rondes et débats : l’impact de l’intelligence artificielle sur le métier de journaliste, la sécurité des professionnels des médias dans les zones de conflit, la liberté de la presse, l’égalité des genres ainsi que l’indépendance éditoriale.
Organisé dans trois sites emblématiques de Paris — le Théâtre de la Concorde, l’Hôtel de Ville de Paris et le Novotel Paris-Est — ce congrès a été rendu possible grâce à l’implication des quatre syndicats français affiliés à la FIJ : SNJ, SNJ-CGT, CFDT-Journalistes et FO-Syndicat de la Presse.
L’un des moments les plus marquants de ce congrès fut la journée électorale du 5 mai 2026 consacrée au renouvellement des deux principales instances dirigeantes de la FIJ : le Comité administratif (5 postes) et le Comité exécutif (16 postes). Innovation majeure de cette édition : l’introduction du vote électronique aussi bien pour les motions que pour les élections.
Au terme d’une campagne particulièrement intense menée par les différents candidats et blocs continentaux, les résultats ont consacré une victoire éclatante de la camarade Présidente Marion Obam. Réélue au Comité exécutif de la FIJ, elle réalise un double exploit :
Première en pourcentage des suffrages exprimés avec 74,70 % ;
Première en nombre de délégations nationales ayant porté leur choix sur sa candidature, soit 189 pays sur 249 votants.
Une brillante victoire pour le SNJC, pour le Cameroun et pour l’Afrique au service du journalisme mondial.
La camarade Marion Obam travaillera aux côtés de Zuliana Lainez, élue présidente de la FIJ au cours de ce même congrès. Après deux femmes à la tête de la FIJ durant le premier centenaire, c’est encore une femme qui ouvre le mandat du second centenaire de cette grande organisation mondiale de défense des journalistes.
Il y a les syndicats. Il y a le SNJC.

32nd IFJ World Congress: Marion Obam re-elected to the executive committee
Statement from the National Executive Bureau of the Cameroon Journalists’ Trade Union (CJTU)
From 4 to 7 May 2026, the 32nd World Congress and Centenary Congress of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) was held in Paris. The Cameroon Journalists’ Trade Union (CJTU) took an active part alongside more than 189 trade union organisations from around the world.
Comrade Marion Obam was among the 300 delegates from the five continents who participated in this major international gathering.
The congress marked the 100th anniversary of the IFJ, founded in Paris in 1926. Held under the theme “100 Years of International Solidarity for Strong Journalism and Trade Unionism”, the historic event aimed to define the future direction of the profession in the face of contemporary challenges.
Proceedings were opened by outgoing IFJ President Dominique Pradalié, followed by interventions from Jim Boumelha and the general report presented by Anthony Bellanger.
Several major themes were examined through presentations, roundtables, and debates, including the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism, the safety of media professionals in conflict zones, press freedom, gender equality, and editorial independence.
Hosted across three emblematic venues in Paris, that is, the Théâtre de la Concorde, the Hôtel de Ville de Paris, and the Novotel Paris-Est the congress was made possible through the involvement of the four French unions affiliated with the IFJ: SNJ, SNJ-CGT, CFDT-Journalistes, and FO-Syndicat de la Presse.
One of the defining moments of the congress was the election session held on 5 May 2026 for the renewal of the IFJ’s two main governing bodies: the Administrative Committee with five seats and the Executive Committee with sixteen seats. A major innovation at this edition was the introduction of electronic voting for both motions and elections.
Following an intense campaign led by candidates and continental blocs, the results produced a resounding victory for Marion Obam. Re-elected to the IFJ Executive Committee, she achieved a double distinction:
Highest percentage of votes cast with 74.70 per cent;
Highest number of national delegations supporting her candidacy, with backing from 189 delegations out of 249 voters.
The outcome represents a significant victory for CJTU, for Cameroon, and for Africa in the service of global journalism.
Marion Obam will serve alongside Zuliana Lainez, elected President of the IFJ during the same congress. After two women led the organisation during its first century, another woman now begins the mandate of the IFJ’s second century as the global body for the defence of journalists.
