On the International Day of Action for Rivers (March 14), adopted since March 1997, communities are encouraged to collaborate globally with associations to protect 'water and life' through actions such as cleanup events and restoration efforts in the fight against climate change. This day engages diverse communities to unite with one voice to protect, restore, and manage rivers sustainably. Activities often include awareness campaigns and actions in support of policy changes and preservation of the riverine ecosystem. One of the key community actions for this particular day, March 14, 2026, involved: Cleanup Operations and Plogging (an eco-fitness trend encouraging environmental stewardship). In collaboration with Organisation International Rivers, Lantern For the Earth (LFTE) teamed up with the Association for Fisher Men (APC), the local government through its Municipal Council of Douala IV-Bonaberi, STEDD (Société de Transition Écologique et du Développement Durable), Company Ecogreen, and local volunteers to clean trash and pick up plastic bottles from the riverbanks of the Wouri River, besides the Bonassama Community and neighborhood. The aim of this action is to keep water and the community clean and healthy.
