A United Front Against Substance Abuse

On the 20th of June 2026, Rural Doctors joined a host of for the Preparatory and Stakeholder Engagement Meeting for the First National Symposium on the Fight against drug abuse in . The session brought together a powerful coalition of Civil Society organisations and frontline health actors working to combat substance abuse in their different spheres of intervention. Practical, evidence-based interventions were discussed, ranging from community sensitisation to early intervention grounded in local realities rather than policy papers alone.

is a public health crisis; it's an "epidemic". It fractures families, derails futures, and burdens our health systems. This upcoming National Symposium will be the first of its kind, aiming at bringing together the government, CSOs, medical professionals, researchers, and communities to align on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Together, we can fight against this growing public health burden that's fragmenting community peace.

Last week, Rural Doctors joined EPI Cameroon, CBC Health Services - CBCHS, , and national stakeholders in , Yaoundé, for a five-day validation workshop on a study that should concern every global health partner invested in Cameroon: "Assessment of Gender and Equity-Related Barriers Influencing Access to and Use of Vaccination Services in Cameroon."

Conducted across five regions and five health districts, Belel, Mokolo, Touboro, Kumbo West, Wum, and Tiko, this study mapped the gender, equity and health barriers that keep vaccines from reaching the people who need them most.

In the South West Region, where Rural Doctors work, these barriers are not data points in a report. They are the practical realities we see daily. We brought these realities into the room. This is precisely what this kind of national evidence needs

Though validation workshops alone do not save lives. What saves lives is the sustained investment in the people and organizations operating in the hardest settings, long after the workshop ends and the reports are filed.
The South West Region of Cameroon remains one of the most security-compromised humanitarian environments in . Health systems are fractured. Vaccination coverage has collapsed. Gender barriers documented in this study are compounded daily by displacement, fear, and institutional absence.

The evidence exists. The field teams exist. What we need are partners willing to invest in turning local evidence into lasting impact for these ommunities.

Today, we stand with warriors, families, and communities, calling for stronger health systems, access to treatment, and an end to stigma.

HIV Screening Focus

Day 2 spotlight on our community health outreach at GBHS Muea

Over 100 students accessed free HIV screening during our outreach.
With pre‑ and post‑test counselling, we ensured every student left with knowledge, clarity, and support. No one walked away with unanswered questions.

This is how we fight stigma, with facts, care, and courage.
Tomorrow, we’ll share how students engaged in health talks.

🩸Periods are natural. Shame is not

This World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we join the global movement to break stigma, promote awareness, and support menstrual health for every girl and woman.

Access to menstrual hygiene products, education, and safe spaces should never be a privilege. Together, we can build communities where no girl feels ashamed or left behind because of her period.

Let’s keep the conversation open, supportive, and stigma-free ❤️
