What if every student knew exactly what to do when a joke stops being funny, a comment becomes uncomfortable, or someone crosses a boundary?

Too many young people experience harassment at school and are expected to simply “ignore it,” “manage it,” or “move on.” But silence does not make schools safer. Knowledge, support and action do.

That is why Community Centre for Integrated Development (CCID) developed this 5-part comic series for young people to start conversations about:

Boundaries. Unwanted behaviour. Speaking up. Supporting friends. Reporting safely.

Because every student should know that respect is not complicated: ask, listen, respect the answer.

And when something feels wrong, young people should know where to turn and who can support them.

“There is no community peace while girls are unsafe.”
Across Batoke, Idenau and Penda Mboko, something important happened this August: generations sat together, listened to each other, challenged harmful norms and began redefining what peace should mean in their communities.
Through the Her Peace, Our Peace – Women, Peace & Security Project, CCID and our community partners brought together 97 community stakeholders — adolescent girls and young women, traditional and religious leaders, women leaders, male allies, elders and other community members — for three intergenerational dialogues.
These were not conversations for conversation’s sake.
Participants openly discussed gender-based violence, drug abuse, sexual violence, insecurity and other challenges affecting their communities. Young women were given space to speak. Elders listened. Leaders committed to challenging harmful gender norms, supporting access to the Peace Huts and encouraging proper referral of GBV cases rather than quietly settling them behind closed doors.
And perhaps the most powerful lesson was simple:
Her peace is our peace. Her safety is our collective responsibility.
The conversations are now feeding into the development of Community Peace Compacts for Batoke, Idenau and Penda Mboko — turning dialogue into commitments that communities can own, monitor and sustain.
Implemented by Community Centre for Integrated Development (CCID) with BAWAC Cameroon, CEYOFE and Alliance for Community Initiative (AfCI), with support from the German Federal Foreign Office.
Peace cannot be built around women and girls. It must be built with them.

Peace isn’t only built by those most affected by conflict — it’s also built when men choose to be part of the solution, not just spectators.

Being a Male Ally means standing alongside the women in your community, not in front of them. It’s not about taking the lead — it’s about listening, supporting, and acting when it matters.

It means using your voice and your position to open space for women, rather than filling it yourself.

What does it mean to be a Peace Ambassador?

A Peace Ambassador is not a peace expert — she’s a young woman who chooses to turn her own experience into a voice for others.

Being a Peace Ambassador means becoming the voice of your community: sharing what you’ve lived, speaking up where silence used to be, and helping other adolescent girls and young women feel heard and understood.

It doesn’t take special training or credentials. It takes courage to speak, and the will to be part of change.

In every conflict, women pay the highest price: they’re often the first to face violence, displacement, and loss of safety. Yet when it comes to building peace, their voices remain on the margins — rarely at the decision-making table, rarely heard in the processes that shape their own future.

Her Peace, Our Peace was created to change this narrative. The project builds Peace Huts — safe community spaces where young women aren’t just beneficiaries, but protagonists: leading peace initiatives, supporting survivors, and connecting those in need to the right services.

At the heart of the initiative are the Peace Ambassadors, young women trained to carry dialogue forward within their own communities, and the Male Allies, men who choose to stand alongside them as champions of change — because building peace takes everyone.

Through the “Sit Down & Talk Sessions,” elders, youth, and families come together to speak, listen, and reshape what peace means for their community. Real stories, told by those who live them: this is how change grows from the ground up, voice by voice.

Last week, our GLOW Club girls turned learning into action through a community engagement activity inspired by their Act of Kindness module.

With brooms, rakes, and determination, the girls cleaned major roads, public taps, and community squares, demonstrating that creating positive change begins with small acts of service. Their efforts not only contributed to cleaner and healthier communities but also inspired others to take pride in their shared spaces.

This activity reminds us that leadership is about more than words,it's about taking action, serving others, and making a lasting impact.

We are incredibly proud of these young leaders for showing that kindness, responsibility, and community spirit can transform lives, one act at a time.
