Chameg Cameroon

Chameg Cameroon Changing Mentalities and Empowering Groups (CHAMEG) is a community-based, not for profit and nongovernmental organization in Cameroon established in 1994.

CHAMEG'S MAIN GOAL AND VISION:

CHAMEG's main goal is to ameliorate the livelihoods of women through self determination and participation which can lead to the attainment of a society where women and girls are empowered to overcome poverty, harmful cultural practices and discrimination and where they are viewed as equal partners in development. CHAMEG works specifically in the South Western R

egion of Cameroon. We work with women of all categories, particularly the disadvantaged and excluded and help them build up the energy that enable them to become more active and influence their local communities. We help women to learn the skills and confidence they need to participate. We mobilise women, provide them with knowledge, information, tools and resources and support them to get active, take a stance on issues, engage and participate to influence decisions. We support women to:

Believe in their power to participate and influence society and bring about change in structures, practices, attitudes and policies that deter women's progress . Use their power to participate and influence society and bring about change having explored with them how to take a stance on issues, how to develop strategies to influence change and how to take actions for change. Engage, participate and hold their local representatives accountable. Challenge the structures, attitudes and underlying values, which infringe on their rights and which prevent them from attaining their potential. We bring to light under hidden facts, make recommendations and engage to effect change. OUR CORE VALUES:

Human Right: We believe in the respect and protection of the rights of every human being. Solidarity with women in their plight: Our attempt is to see society from the perspective of women who are disadvantaged. We seek to work together to change structures, policies and attitudes which give rise to exclusion and oppression of women. Empowerment: We empower women with knowledge, information and tools, and work together with the women to challenge attitudes, structures and policies which undermine their basic human rights. Equality & Non-Discrimination: We support efforts to achieve equality at all levels between marginalised and non-marginalised women groups in terms of access to and the distribution of society's resources, political representation and access to decision-making, respect and recognition of needs. As an organisation, we treat everyone who engages with us equally. We don't discriminate on the basis of religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, age, etc .
