Refusal Lines that Work about drug abuse

🛡️ Peer pressure is real; but so is your future.

✅ Refusal skill that works:
NO + REASON + ALTERNATIVE
Example:
➡️ “No thanks. I’m focused on my future. Let’s do something else.”

🔥 5 refusal lines you can use today:
1. “No thanks, I’m good.”
2. “Not today.”
3. “I don’t do that.”
4. “I’m protecting my health.”
5. “I’m leaving now. See you later.”

📌 If pressure continues: repeat once then exit.

💬 Comment: Drop your best refusal line (let’s help someone today).

Real Story: Payday Friday Cycle

📖 Real story (true-to-life):
Every payday Friday it starts with “just one drink.”
Then it becomes “one more.”
Then Monday comes with regret: empty pocket, low energy, missed responsibilities.

🔁 The cycle: Stress → Payday → Pressure → Overspending/Drinking → Regret → Stress again.

✅ How to break it:
• Make a small budget before payday (needs first).
• Choose a safe hangout (not a pressure environment).
• Go with disciplined friends who respect boundaries.
• Set a transport plan before you go out.

💬 Question: What’s your safest payday rule?

Myth vs Fact: Sh**ha

🚫 MYTH: Sh**ha is safer than ci******es because the smoke passes through water.
✅ FACT: Water does not remove many harmful chemicals. A sh**ha session can last long, meaning more smoke exposure. Charcoal can also add extra harmful fumes.

What you can do (practical):
1. Don’t let “it’s just flavor” fool you.
2. If you feel pressured, use a short refusal line:
👉 “No thanks, I’m protecting my health.”
3. Choose safer hangouts: sports, movies, food spots, skills clubs.

💬 Question: What’s the biggest sh**ha myth you hear around you?

WORLD CANCER DAY | Breaking the Link Between Drug Abuse and Cancer

Together We Can Beat Cancer

Did you know that substance abuse significantly increases the risk of developing various types of cancer?

• To***co is responsible for nearly one-third of all cancer deaths globally , it can cause lung, mouth, throat, bladder and kidney cancer.

• Alcohol consumption raises the risk of breast, liver, colorectal and esophageal cancer, even in small amounts.

• Illicit drugs like co***ne, he**in and methamphetamine weaken the immune system and may contain harmful chemicals that damage DNA, contributing to cancer development.

• Prescription drug misuse can also have long-term effects on bodily systems that protect against cancer.

Cancer doesn't discriminate, but we can take action to protect ourselves and our communities. If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse, help is available. Reach out to local health services, support groups or trusted healthcare providers. Early intervention not only reduces cancer risk but also improves overall quality of life.

Why So Many Young People Struggle to Find Work . The Real Employability Challenge

Many young people today are educated, skilled, and full of ambition, yet still struggle to find decent work. The problem isn’t always a lack of talent; it’s often a gap between what the job market demands and what young people are prepared for.

Employers want experience, but few are willing to give young people the chance to gain it. Technical know-how is valued, but soft skills such as communication, teamwork, adaptability are often what make the difference, and these aren’t always taught in school.

Also limited mentorship, poor access to career guidance, and shrinking job opportunities are also some of the reasons youth don’t have jobs.

At AYECBA, we believe employability isn’t just about finding a job; it’s about building capacity, confidence, and networks that prepare young people to create opportunities, not just wait for them.

What do you think is the biggest barrier keeping youth from becoming more employable today? 💬
