Who Am I Really?
At some point in life, many youths begin to wrestle with a quiet but powerful question: Who am I really?
It is not always asked out loud, but it lives in the background of many thoughts and decisions. Sometimes the question appears when we compare ourselves with others. Sometimes it rises when we feel misunderstood or when life does not unfold the way we expected.
The world offers many answers to this question. Some say our identity comes from success, education, wealth, or recognition. Others say it comes from the opinions people have about us.
But these definitions often leave young hearts feeling confused or empty. Achievements can change, people's opinions can shift, and circumstances can rise and fall. When identity is built on these things, it becomes fragile.
We therefore spend years trying to become someone the world will finally accept, hoping that acceptance will answer the question of who we truly are.
Yet the search often leaves us feeling more lost than before.
Scripture reveals something different about identity. It teaches that our true identity does not begin with what we achieve or what others think of us.
It begins with the One who created us.
"I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
This means that every life carries intentional design and purpose. You were not created accidentally, and your worth was not meant to be decided by the shifting opinions of the world.
Your identity is first rooted in the fact that you are known and valued by God.
When this truth begins to take root in the heart, the endless pressure to prove oneself slowly begins to fade. Instead of constantly asking the world who we are, we begin to listen to the voice of the One who made us.
And that voice always speaks value, purpose, and belonging.
📍 Take a few minutes today to reflect on the ways you usually define yourself.
Are those definitions coming from achievements, comparisons, or the expectations of others? Write them down, then remind yourself that your deepest identity begins with being created and known by God.
💫 Lord, help us see ourselves the way You see us. When we feel confused about who we are, remind us that our identity is rooted in Your design and love. Teach us to find our worth in You rather than in the shifting opinions of the world. Amen.
You are not alone.
Your pain is seen.
Your life still has purpose.
Your friend in Christ, Diallo
