🤝 Great company, great conversations at TARTS.

We recently welcomed representatives from GIZ, UE and ADCTOUR to our research station in Ngotto for a day of real exchange.

From the laboratory to the fields, the rabbit units to the nursery, our team walked guests through the full picture of what regenerative agriculture looks like in practice here in the East Region.

The conversations were honest and energising, covering plant health, biological solutions, and how we continue to grow what we are building at TARTS.

The visit ended with dragon fruit shared between everyone and a family photo. Honestly the best way any working day could finish. 🐉😄

If visits like this are anything to go by, exciting things are on the horizon. 🌱

The melons are coming along nicely.

Our melon plot is spreading out beautifully, with strong healthy leaves and the first flowers beginning to appear. A promising sign of what is to come.

This is what well prepared soil looks like above the surface. The work we put into the beds before planting is now showing in the vigour and spread of these plants.

We are watching closely. Harvest is not far away. 🌱

🌿 Moringa beds cleaned and mulched.

Today the team finished clearing the moringa beds and continued mulching across the plot.

Three reasons we mulch at TARTS. It suppresses w**d growth, retains moisture in the soil, and protects the living biology beneath the surface.

Every layer of mulch is an investment in the health of what grows above it. 🌱

🍆 The African eggplant is fruiting at TARTS.

One of the things we love most about this site is the diversity of what grows here. The African eggplant is a hardy, nutritious crop deeply rooted in local food culture, and seeing it fruit is always a satisfying moment.

Good soil grows good food. It really is that simple. 🌱

🤝 A very welcome visit at TARTS.

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming a team from GIZ/UE to our research station. It was a rich exchange, full of shared experience and genuine dialogue.

The visit began in the laboratory, where we walked our guests through the foundation of our work, the Soil Food Web approach and the central role of soil biology in everything we do.

From there the team toured the site, taking in the diversity of our crops, the integration of animals into the farming system, and our composting and organic matter management work.

What seemed to resonate most was our community work. The training sessions delivered to children and local populations left a strong impression, a reminder that regenerative agriculture is not only about the land but about the people connected to it.

We are grateful for the visit and for the conversations it opened. 🌱

🌿 Nothing goes to waste at TARTS.

Today the team continued shredding pruned branches, with the resulting wood chips collected and stored in the main hall. The remaining leaves will go directly into our compost piles.

Every branch that gets pruned has a second life here. Wood chips for mulching, drainage and livestock bedding. Leaves for composting and feeding soil biology.

This is the closed loop system we work by every day. What the farm produces, the farm uses. 🌱

🌱 First signs of life in the soursop block.

Our daikon radish has begun germinating in the first section of the soursop block, and the rest of the sowing will be completed this week.

Daikon radish is not just a crop. As a cover crop it works hard below the surface, breaking up compacted soil with its deep taproot, improving drainage and creating channels that benefit everything planted around it.

Every seed that germinates is a small victory. And this one is just the beginning. 🌿

🌿 The morning started early in the vanilla field.

We applied a compost extract combined with Trichoderma directly to our vanilla plants, a powerful combination that works on two levels at once.

The compost extract feeds the soil biology and stimulates plant growth. The Trichoderma provides natural protection against fungal attack, reinforcing the plant’s own defence systems from the root up.

No synthetic inputs. Just biology supporting biology.
This is regenerative agriculture in practice, small consistent actions that build resilience over time. 🌱

🌅 Sunrise over the pitaya plot.

This is why we show up every day.

Before the heat, before the work begins, there is this. A quiet reminder of what we are building and why it matters.

Good morning from TARTS. 🌱

🌵 Keeping our pitaya in shape.

Today the team carried out maintenance pruning across our pitaya plot. Pruning is not just about tidiness, it is a deliberate practice that directs the plant’s energy towards fruiting, improves air circulation, and reduces disease pressure.

Every cut is a decision. Remove what is not serving the plant so that what remains can thrive.

This is the kind of quiet, consistent work that happens every day at TARTS and that makes the difference when harvest time comes. 🌱
