GFDLP Volunteerism Program: Building the Next Generation of Humanitarian Leaders
Under the Global Forum for the Defence of the Less Privileged (GFDLP) Volunteerism Program, a cohort of talented interns from the Department of International Relations at the University of Buea benefited from a comprehensive career orientation session on 31 August 2025 at the UNICEF Office in Buea, Southwest Region of Cameroon. This session was generously facilitated through the support of Mr. Mohammad Idrees Khan, UNICEF Head of Office, reflecting a strong commitment to fostering youth engagement in humanitarian and development initiatives.
During the Career Orientation, Mr. Chungom Emmanuel Fuhbingum, Communication Officer at UNICEF Buea focused on UNICEF’s core global pillars, including:
The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) – emphasizing the protection and promotion of child rights worldwide;
The Core Commitments for Children (CCC) – guiding emergency and humanitarian response for children in crisis settings;
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – framing child-focused interventions within the global development agenda.
Through this experience, GFDLP interns gained first-hand exposure to international child-focused interventions and career pathways in humanitarian and development work, strengthening their capacity to become future leaders and advocates for vulnerable communities.
This initiative exemplifies GFDLP’s mission to empower youth and build local capacity to advance global development goals. Donor and partner support is crucial to expand such volunteerism and capacity-building opportunities, amplifying our impact on community development and youth empowerment across conflict-affected regions of Cameroon.
