Sometimes, all it takes is one safe space for a young person to speak, ask questions, and be heard.

Over the past days, young girls came together through YEARN – Youth Empowerment and Resilience Network for an open conversation on Gender-Based Violence, personal hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, and mental well-being.

It was more than just a workshop. It was a moment to learn, share experiences, ask questions, and talk about some of the real challenges young people face today.

Gender-Based Violence is not only about physical abuse. It can also be sexual, psychological, or economic, and can take different forms such as r**e, sexual harassment, economic abuse, FGM, forced child marriage, and human trafficking. The effects can be serious, affecting a person's health, confidence, mental well-being, and even their life.

This is why these conversations are important. Sometimes, having the right information can help someone recognize a harmful situation, speak up, seek support, or even help another person.

We also talked about health and well-being, because taking care of ourselves goes beyond just our physical health. Personal hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health are all important parts of living a healthy and fulfilling life.

At YEARN, we believe in creating spaces where young people can learn, speak freely, ask questions, and grow with confidence.

One conversation may look small, but it can make a real difference.

This was more than a workshop. It was a step towards building healthier, safer, and more empowered young people.

And honestly, this is just the beginning.

At YEARN, we believe that every young person has the capacity to rise, grow, and make a difference, even when the road ahead isn't clear.

So, as you step into this new week, don't be afraid to take the next step. You may not see the whole path yet. Sometimes, you only need enough courage to take the first step.

May this week find you choosing possibility over fear and purpose over hesitation.

Happy Monday from YEARN.

They were told to hide.
To hide their pain, their fears and their voice.
That no one would hear them, even if they screamed at the top of their voices.

And then came YEARN.
They never had to scream to heard, because YEARN goes in search of people like them, giving them reasons to believe tomorrow can be different.

Somewhere, someone is waiting for a miracle, and sometimes, a miracle can just mean someone willing to listen.

Over the past several months, Youth Empowerment And Resilience Network (YEARN) has had the privilege of walking alongside courageous survivors of gender-based violence as they rebuilt confidence, acquired practical livelihood skills, and took meaningful steps toward economic independence.

The project was not just about training. It was about restoring hope, rebuilding dignity, and creating opportunities for survivors to heal, thrive, and lead productive lives.

Through psychosocial support, pastry production and entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and business development sessions, we witnessed remarkable transformation.

This impact would not have been possible without the generous support of the International Leading Well Network that continues to support Community Solutions Program alumni. We sincerely thank the International Leading Well Network for believing in YEARN's vision and for investing in locally led solutions that create lasting change.

We are equally grateful to our facilitators, volunteers, community leaders, and partners and everyone who showed up during the summit to listen and support. Your dedication made this journey possible. Above all, we celebrate the incredible women who embraced this opportunity with courage, determination, and resilience. You are the true inspiration behind this success.

While this project has come to an end, its impact will continue to live on through the businesses established, the confidence restored, the skills gained, and the stronger support networks created.

At YEARN, we remain committed to building communities where every survivor has the opportunity not only to recover, but to thrive.

Every professional has a beginning.

Before the experience, the confidence, and the expertise, there is a first opportunity to learn, to ask questions, to make mistakes, and to grow.

At the Youth Empowerment and Resilience Network (YEARN), we believe that internships are more than a requirement; they are a bridge between the classroom and the community. They provide young people with the opportunity to transform knowledge into action while discovering the value of teamwork, service, and purpose.

This season, we are delighted to welcome our interns as they begin this exciting journey with us. As they learn from the work we do, we also look forward to learning from their creativity, fresh perspectives, and enthusiasm.

Together, we are building more than careers. We are nurturing a generation of changemakers committed to creating lasting impact.

Welcome to the YEARN family. We are excited to grow together.

Every new week arrives with the same question:

"What will you choose to do with the opportunities placed before you?"

Change rarely begins with grand gestures. It begins with one decision, one conversation, one act of kindness, one person choosing not to give up.

As this new week unfolds, remember that your actions, no matter how small they may seem, have the power to inspire hope, strengthen communities, and create lasting impact.

Let's make this week count.

Good Morning from the Youth Empowerment and Resilience Network (YEARN).

Every successful business starts with a single opportunity.

For 30 determined women, that opportunity came through a hands-on training that transformed passion into purpose. A few months back, they gathered not only to learn the art of making delicious pastries but also to discover how to package, brand, and market their products with confidence.

Today, we're taking a moment to look back on this inspiring journey.

Through this training, participants gained practical skills in pastry production, attractive packaging, effective marketing, and brand development, equipping them to turn their talents into sustainable sources of income.

One of the proudest moments came when these women had the opportunity to showcase their beautifully branded pastry products during the North West Women Mediators Summit organised by Mother Of Hope Cameroon - Mohcam. Seeing their products on display was a powerful reminder that with the right skills, support, and determination, women can build thriving businesses and create lasting change in their communities.

At Youth Empowerment and Resilience Network (YEARN), we remain committed to creating opportunities that empower women economically and strengthen their resilience.

This was made possible with funding from the International Leading Well Network. Here's to every woman who dared to learn, create, and believe in her potential. Your journey is inspiring, and we're excited to see what comes next.

Why is it that, despite countless awareness campaigns, strengthened legal frameworks, and expanding support systems for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), perpetrators continue to offend while many victims remain silent?

This question continues to challenge communities, organizations, and advocates working to end gender-based violence.

For many survivors, silence is not a choice born out of ignorance but one shaped by fear. Fear of retaliation from perpetrators. Fear of not being believed. Fear of stigma, shame, judgment, and rejection. For some, even the justice system appears too weak to guarantee protection. These fears often become barriers that prevent survivors from seeking help or sharing their experiences.

Recognizing this challenge, the Youth Empowerment and Resilience Network (YEARN) turned to an approach that does more than educate. It creates a space where silence finds a voice: Community Theatre.

Through Community Theatre, participants stepped beyond being listeners and became storytellers. They revisited lived experiences, questioned harmful norms, and transformed difficult conversations into performances that invited reflection, empathy, and dialogue. Together with the facilitators, they explored the root causes of gender-based violence, co-created stories drawn from real-life experiences, and brought them to life through drama. What began as conversation evolved into powerful performances that encouraged understanding, inspired meaningful discussions, and reminded participants that every voice has the power to shape change.

The session was more than an activity. It became a safe space for expression, reflection, and personal growth. Through storytelling and performance, participants found the confidence to share perspectives that might otherwise have remained unspoken. As one participant reflected, the experience was deeply impactful, and many expressed the hope that similar sessions would be organized more often.

At YEARN, Community Theatre is more than a performance. It is a bridge between silence and dialogue, between fear and expression, and between awareness and action. Because lasting change begins not only when people are informed, but when they are empowered to tell their stories, challenge harmful norms, and become part of the solution. A big thank you to International Leading Well Network .
