Happy World Donkey Day! 🐴

Today, we celebrate one of the most hardworking and often overlooked animals in our communities the donkey.

Across Cameroon and many parts of the world, donkeys are lifelines. They carry water, transport goods, support farmers, and help families earn a living. Despite their immense contribution, they are too often subjected to overwork, poor treatment, and neglect.

On this special day, we call on everyone to:
💚 Show kindness and compassion to donkeys
💚 Promote proper care, feeding, and humane handling
💚 Support efforts to end cruelty, including the donkey skin trade
💚 Recognize their value and protect their welfare

Every donkey deserves respect, care, and a life free from suffering.

Together, we can build a future where working animals are treated with dignity.

Improving Donkey Welfare in the Far North of Cameroon 🐴

In the Far North Region of Cameroon, donkeys are essential for daily life—helping families transport water, firewood, and goods. Yet many suffer from overwork, injuries, and lack of proper care.

Our OIPA Cameroon team is working to change this through a combination of education and veterinary treatment.

We engage communities, donkey owners, and school children on:
✔️ Proper feeding and watering
✔️ Humane handling and safe loading
✔️ Basic healthcare and disease prevention
At the same time, we provide free veterinary care through mobile clinics, treating wounds, infections, and other health conditions to reduce suffering and improve their wellbeing.

By combining knowledge with action, we are seeing real change—healthier donkeys, more responsible ownership, and stronger livelihoods for communities who depend on them.

Together, we can build a future where working animals are treated with the care and respect they deserve. 💚

Empowering Communities for Better Animal Care! 🐾

We are proud to announce the successful completion of our Veterinary Training Program! 🎉

This initiative was designed to equip dedicated Community Animal Health Workers with the skills and knowledge needed to respond to sick and injured animals within their communities. These trained individuals will serve as a vital link between animal owners and proper care services.

Through this program, participants are now able to:
✅ Identify and respond to common animal health issues
✅ Provide basic care for injured and sick animals
✅ Educate community members on responsible animal care and welfare
✅ Promote better treatment and protection of animals

This is a big step forward in improving animal welfare at the grassroots level. By empowering local communities, we are building a future where animals receive the care, respect, and protection they deserve. 🐶🐱🐐

Are you a veterinarian practicing in Cameroon? We would love to connect with you!
OIPA Cameroon is creating a national network of veterinarians to help respond more quickly to cases involving injured, sick, abandoned, or abused animals across the country. This festive season, OIPA Cameroon in collaboration with the Bogo municipal council and with support from SPANA conducted donkey clinics in Toupperi reaching over 600 donkeys.
The animals were vaccinated against Rabies, dewormed and those with wounds treated. The campaign also saw countless community members, donkey owners and users sensitized on upholding donkey welfare as well as the need to enhance donkey security.
