🌟 Happy International Sign Language Day!

Today, we celebrate the beauty, richness, and importance of sign languages around the world. Sign language is a form of communication that uses hand gestures and facial expressions. It was officially declared by the UN, and every 23rd September is now recognized as International Day of Sign Languages. This year’s theme is: “No human rights without sign language rights.”

At Mandrill-Alert, we are committed to breaking communication barriers and empowering the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. This is reflected in our fashion design training, which is tailored for Deaf participants, with all communication conducted in sign language. In our own way, we foster communication as a right, not a privilege, promoting true inclusion.

Let’s all take a moment to celebrate diversity in communication and support a world where everyone can connect. 💛

🌍 September is Deaf Awareness Month!

At Mandrill-Alert, we proudly join the global Deaf community in raising awareness, celebrating Deaf culture, and advocating for inclusion.

This year’s theme is:
✨ “No Human Rights Without Sign Language Rights.” ✨

It reminds us that access to sign language is not optional — it is a fundamental human right, central to equality, safety, and dignity for Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons.

At Mandrill-Alert, we stand firm in our mission to:
🤟 Promote the use and recognition of sign language.
🛡️ Build safer, more inclusive spaces for Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons in conflict-affected areas.
🎨 Showcase Deaf talent through initiatives like our Fashion for Safety program.
🚨 Improve emergency preparedness through accessible alert systems.

Deaf Awareness Month is a call to action: true inclusion means equal access, equal rights, and equal opportunities for all. đź’™

✨ Follow along as we share stories, activities, and milestones throughout September. Together, let’s ensure that with sign language and accessibility, everyone is included!

🌍✨ Just imagine living in a society where fear is constant—where gunfire, bombings, and ghost towns disrupt everyday life. Sadly, this has been the reality for children in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon for the past 9 years.

In such an environment, going to school and returning home safely is nothing short of a miracle. Yet, despite these challenges, hope still sprouts. 🌱

Through a partnership between the Bosch Alumni Network and Mandrill-Alert, we launched the Peace Sprouts Project in Bamenda. Our goal: train young pupils to become peace leaders in their schools.

💡 From conflict resolution lessons to fun icebreakers, creative drawing activities, and powerful slogans like “Yes to Peace, No to Conflict” — we saw real transformation. One young girl who first said she would “fight back” later shared she would now choose dialogue and peace. That shift says it all. 💖

As these 14 brave young leaders prepare for a new school year, we couldn’t let them leave without support — we provided school materials, shared snacks, and ended the day with a collective clean-up of our Mandrill-Alert hall.

🌱 Peace is possible, and it starts with nurturing the next generation.

World Humanitarian Day 2025🗺️

A few days ago, during one of our Mandrill-Alert fashion training sessions where we teach Deaf participants fashion design, we experienced how much easier teaching and learning becomes when communication through sign language is available.

I often imagine what the world would be like for the Deaf without these vital signs and gestures, and it reminds me of how powerful communication truly is.

On this World Humanitarian Day, we honor the pioneers of Deaf education and advocacy—Charles-Michel de l’Épée, Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, Laurent Clerc, Alice Cogswell, Edwin Hodgson, and Gertrude Galloway—whose courage transformed silence into a vibrant culture and identity.

Today, we also celebrate the humanitarians among us, ordinary people doing extraordinary things to uplift others. Here in Cameroon, the Deaf community is not waiting to be saved; they are creating solutions, shaping culture, and proving that inclusion makes humanity stronger.

🎓 I Graduated from Kanthari! 🌍

Today marks the end of an incredible chapter and the beginning of an even more powerful one. I’m proud to share that I have officially graduated from Kanthari, a leadership training institute for social change-makers in India.

This journey was more than a course, it was a life-shaping experience that equipped me with the tools, courage, and community to lead mandrill-Alert with even greater impact.

From my lived experience as a Hard of Hearing person navigating life in a conflict zone, to building a nonprofit that champions safety, inclusion, and empowerment for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community—Kanthari helped refine that mission and gave it wings.

I’m beyond grateful to the incredible mentors, catalysts, and fellow change-makers who walked this path with me. This is only the beginning.

🌱 Let’s keep building a world where no one is left out in silence.
