CASID is a community centered participatory development not-for-profit organization that seeks to strengthen communities and improve rights and livelihoods through innovative and diverse programs. BACKGROUND

CASID is a community centred participatory development not-for-profit organization that seeks to develop communities and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable people especially at the gras

sroots level. Through innovative programs in human rights and freedoms, health, poverty alleviation and food security, environmental management, Gender and Women, CASID plays a frontline role in harnessing social capital, building useful networks and developing capacities for a speedy development of people and their communities within all facets of life. Founded in 2013 at a time when human rights abuse , especially on widows and orphans was on the increase, CASID’s focus at the time was on assisting victims who were mainly grassroots widows and orphans in deprived communities of the North West Region of Cameroon whose rights to inheritance and other socio-economic rights and freedoms were abused under the guise of obnoxious customary laws and practices, to seek justice and rehabilitated thereafter. While carrying out this humanitarian assistance following her Community Centered Participatory Development approach, it was also observed that gender discrimination, poverty and hunger, poor infrastructure and social disintegration were key push factors to the violation of human rights and freedoms as well as the main cause of underdevelopment, hence the need for an integrated approach to address these causes. CASID was therefor finally legalized on the 21st of June 2017 with expanded objectives and target thus:
- Promote and protect fundamental human rights and freedoms;
- Promote local philanthropy for speedy community -
development;
- Promote sustainable conventional initiatives to fight poverty and hunger;
- Promote safe environmental management and the fight against climate change;
- Develop capacities and assist local people in the Socio-economic development of their communities;
- Provide direct assistance to vulnerable and destitute persons and groups to enable them lead healthy, quality and productive lives.

STRATEGY OF OPERATION

CASID’s main approach of operation is the Community Centered Participatory Development Approach (CCPD). Through this approach the organization mobilizes individuals and/or groups in the community, build their capacities and work with them to address the development challenges facing their community. This approach is built on the following principles which are also considered as the pillars of the CCPD Approach:

1. Participation: Participation: CASID mobilizes community members for active participation either as individuals or groups in the designing, planning, implementation, M&E of all actions aimed at improving their livelihoods and developing their communities.
