Voluntary Blood Donation Seminar: Bamenda

Blood is life! 💉 It's a vital fluid that circulates through our veins, supplying oxygen and nutrients to our bodies. Without it, our organs wouldn't function, and our lives would be at risk.

That's why blood donation is so crucial. By donating blood, you're helping to save lives, supporting patients in need of transfusions due to surgery, accidents, or diseases.

Unfortunately, our region is facing an unprecedented demand for blood due to the ongoing crisis, which has resulted in:
- Increased accident cases
- Patients on dialysis requiring regular blood transfusions
- Surgeries that require blood
- oncology case management necessitating blood transfusion.
- Other diseases that necessitate blood transfusions

As a result, the need for blood is extremely high, and we urge everyone to consider donating. 🙏

As we approach World Blood Donor Day on June 14th, our Blood Bank team, led by its Chief of Service Mr. Ako Atabon, is gearing up to promote voluntary blood donation in our community. 🌟

A working session was hosted with key stakeholders and blood donor associations to outline our roadmap for blood collection in 2025/2026. 🤝 The plan includes:
- Outreach programs in churches, schools, and other institutions.
- Radio and television appearances for sensitization
- Print materials (posters, flyers, etc.) for awareness
- Community engagement to promote voluntary blood donation

Director Nsame Denis emphasized during this meeting that our hospital doesn't sell blood - the 17,500 CFA paid by clients covers just 30% of materials and essential tests, including: Haemoglobin determination_ Blood grouping
- Rhesus factor testing
- Screening for infectious diseases like HIV and hepatitis (RDT & ELISA), and syphilis.

We were thrilled to have the support of religious leaders like Rev. Achah Gerald, Presbyterial Secretary of Mezam South Presbytery, who pledged to champion Voluntary Blood Donation in his community. 🙏💉

Let's work together to promote voluntary blood donation and ensure a stable blood supply for those in need.❤️

APPEAL FOR WHEELCHAIR SUPPORT

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you All.

We are reaching out today with an urgent appeal on behalf of a fellow sister Queen, living at mile 3 Nkwen Bamenda. She had an accident 4 years ago where one of her legs were amputated and the other leg has undergone 4 different opérations.

This caused her family to go down financially and she was left to struggle for her self.

So far, she carried out her daily activities on a second handed wheelchair which has finally gone bad, thus hindering her movements for the past couple of weeks.

She makes beads and sells them in front of the Bamenda main market.

Her current challenge is the bad wheelchair and she is begging for our support to get a new wheelchair costing between 100.000frs to 150.000frs.

Her house rents are also accumulated and she is expected to pay 200.000frs for a full year.

She is also short of capital to invest in her beads business.

Moreso, she also needs to undergo another operation on the other leg.

We are pleading that nothing is too small, even if it is 500frs, it will go a long way to get her immediate need (The wheelchair)
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

FREE BLOOD DONATION: Regional Hospital Bamenda. July 27th - August 8th.

Under the domain of health, it has been one of our objectives and duty to assist our community by donating blood for free at our hospitals to help save lives.

There is this conception that they sell voluntarily donated blood. NO, they spend about 70.000frs just for tests per voluntary donor and patients are asked to pay 18.000frs to get blood which is money for equipments used and the rest subsidized.

You can also join our team and be a regular voluntary blood donor OR a standby replacement donor, so together let's save lives.

Our next rendezvous will be in September 2024.
Join our team and let's save lives together.

WORKING SESSION WITH THE NATIONAL BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE: Bamenda

Acting as one of the civil society Organizations promoting Voluntary Blood Donation in the Northwest Region Bamenda, OUFO had a work session with the Regional Delegate and other organizations, purposely to ensure the availability of blood at all 3 blood centres in the region and the smooth running of distributing blood.

The session lasted an hour where several resolutions and measures were taken to ensure that blood is readily available to serve the general public and thus reduce mortality rate.

Aside that, we are also calling on the general public to join our team and become voluntary blood donors and together, help save lives.

Voluntary blood donors are Kings and Queens and several beneficial measures have also been put in place by the blood transfusion service to voluntary donors like; free tests when sick, 50% reduction of bills if admitted and other preferential treatment at hospitals.

SEMINAR: Bamenda

The Cameroon National Blood Transfusion Service strengthens relationship between the Regional Hospital Bamenda and blood donation promotion structures.

The importance of Blood donation in health facilities cannot be overlooked. For constant availability of blood at the blood bank, most health facilities carry out blood drives to meet the needs of its clients.

To further improve on the quality and quantity of blood collected, the Regional Hospital Bamenda Blood Transfusion Service together with the National Blood Transfusion Service have held a working session with civil society organizations and associations like One United Family Organization - OUFO working on blood donation promotion in the Northwest Region, to understand the challenges faced in recruiting blood donors and also to consolidate the existence of these organizations and associations with the Blood Transfusion Service of the Regional Hospital Bamenda.

This initial session is to better plan blood donation sensitization, recruitment and blood collection in the facility to save more lives.
