Voluntary Blood Donation Seminar: Bamenda
Blood is life! 💉 It's a vital fluid that circulates through our veins, supplying oxygen and nutrients to our bodies. Without it, our organs wouldn't function, and our lives would be at risk.
That's why blood donation is so crucial. By donating blood, you're helping to save lives, supporting patients in need of transfusions due to surgery, accidents, or diseases.
Unfortunately, our region is facing an unprecedented demand for blood due to the ongoing crisis, which has resulted in:
- Increased accident cases
- Patients on dialysis requiring regular blood transfusions
- Surgeries that require blood
- oncology case management necessitating blood transfusion.
- Other diseases that necessitate blood transfusions
As a result, the need for blood is extremely high, and we urge everyone to consider donating. 🙏
As we approach World Blood Donor Day on June 14th, our Blood Bank team, led by its Chief of Service Mr. Ako Atabon, is gearing up to promote voluntary blood donation in our community. 🌟
A working session was hosted with key stakeholders and blood donor associations to outline our roadmap for blood collection in 2025/2026. 🤝 The plan includes:
- Outreach programs in churches, schools, and other institutions.
- Radio and television appearances for sensitization
- Print materials (posters, flyers, etc.) for awareness
- Community engagement to promote voluntary blood donation
Director Nsame Denis emphasized during this meeting that our hospital doesn't sell blood - the 17,500 CFA paid by clients covers just 30% of materials and essential tests, including: Haemoglobin determination_ Blood grouping
- Rhesus factor testing
- Screening for infectious diseases like HIV and hepatitis (RDT & ELISA), and syphilis.
We were thrilled to have the support of religious leaders like Rev. Achah Gerald, Presbyterial Secretary of Mezam South Presbytery, who pledged to champion Voluntary Blood Donation in his community. 🙏💉
Let's work together to promote voluntary blood donation and ensure a stable blood supply for those in need.❤️
