Childhood cancer is often mistaken for malaria, infection, or witchcraft. If you see these signs in your child, please contact us IMMEDIATELY.

THE 7 WARNING SIGNS:

1. JAW / BELLY SWELLING — Big, hard, painless swelling on jaw or belly.

2. WHITE SPOT IN THE EYE — White glow in photo, like cat eye.

3.FEVER THAT DOESN'T GO — Fever for more than 2 weeks, not responding to malaria drugs.

4.UNUSUAL BLEEDING — Nose bleeding, gum bleeding, many bruises without falling.

5. CONSTANT HEADACHE + VOMITING — Especially in morning, child very tired.

6. LUMP ANYWHERE — Neck, armpit, leg, hand etc

7. LOSING WEIGHT & TIRED — Child eating well but getting thinner, always tired

✅ Go to hospital. 80% of these cancers are curable if caught early.

NO CHILD IN CAMEROON SHOULD DIE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD TRANSPORTATION FARE TO THE HOSPITAL

In high-income countries, 80% of children with cancer survive. In Cameroon, only 10% to 20% survive. One of the reasons for this is because they can't access treatment on time.

Burkitt Lymphoma, is the most common childhood cancer in our Northwest Region, but here is the heartbreaking truth:

Families walk for days, or spend money they don't have, just to reach the few hospitals that offer chemotherapy in Cameroon. 30% of children who need chemo never even start, 19% drop out during treatment because they run out of money and several others go undiagnosed.

For a mother in Ndop, Kumbo, Mamfe and so on, a single trip to Mbingo Baptist Hospital or the Chantal Biya Foundation can cost more than a month's income. So she has to choose: food for her other children or the bus fare to save her sick child.

We cannot let transport be the reason a child dies.This is why we are raising funds.

CHILDHOOD CANCER BY NUMBERS IN CAMEROON -The reality we don't talk about.

Only 1 in 5 children with cancer in Cameroon is ever diagnosed.Where are the other 4? They are in villages in Ndop, Kumbo, Wum, Batibo and so on. They are mistaken for witchcraft, malaria, or "swollen belly".

The number keeps increasing, this is due to the lack of awareness on childhood cancer hence these heroes go through this difficult period fighting alone.

There are ~1,800 new cases of childhood cancer per year in Cameroon. < 20% get to a hospital for diagnosis while < 10% complete treatment but > 80% CAN BE CURED if caught early.

At Action Against Childhood Cancer (AACC), we are changing this story — one child, one family, one community at a time.

In Cameroon, when a child gets cancer, many families suffer in silence. Not because they don't love their children but because they don't know about childhood Cancer and do not know where to seek help.

They don't know that a swollen belly that won't go down, a white spot in the eye, constant fever, or a swelling on the body could be childhood cancer.They don't know that early detection saves lives.

At Action Against Childhood Cancer (AACC), every day we meet brave little fighters: bald, tired but still smiling in their little gold corners. They didn't choose this battle, but they are fighting with a courage that humbles us.

Childhood cancer is NOT a curse. It is NOT witchcraft. It is a disease that can be treated when we catch it early.
