WHO defines childhood cancer as “cancers that arise in children and adolescents younger than 15 years of age”. Cameroon is a lower-middle income country with a population of about 30 million persons and it is estimated that approximately 37.6% live below the poverty line that is 813frs per day.

Cancer is the leading disease- related cause of death in children in developed countries as 90% of childhood cancer cases occur in these countries where mortality is 4-5 folds higher compared to high income settings.Each year, an estimated 1,390 children are diagnosed of cancer in Cameroon and a significant portion, possibly 4 out of 5 di not survive more than 5 years after diagnosis. Cameroon faces significant cancer burden with high mortality rate and a growing number of new cases. This is due to lack of awareness and delay in diagnosis.

Early childhood cancer detection reduces mortality particularly in LMICs where community awareness plays a vital role. Please kindly join us in the fight against childhood cancer by raising awareness on the disease, identify suspected cases and refer them to us. You can also support a child through a donation. This will save a life.
