The Birth of a Movement for Peace in the North West

History was made at the North West Women Mediators Summit 2026 with the official launch of the North West Regional Women Mediators Network.

In the presence of representatives of the Governor of the North West Region, the Archbishop of Bamenda, traditional rulers from across the region, and other distinguished personalities, the Governor's representative officially declared the network launched.

This landmark achievement brought together women mediators under one platform, marking the birth of a movement committed to advancing inclusive dialogue, mediation, and sustainable peace across the North West.

Traditional Rulers Champion Women’s Inclusion in Governance, Peace building at North West Women Mediators' Summit 2026

Traditional rulers and Fons from across the North West Region convened at the Big Mankon Cathedral Hall on 5 June 2026 for a dedicated breakout session during the second day of the North West Women Mediators Summit organized by Mother of Hope Cameroon.

The discussion focused on advancing women’s participation in decision-making structures and peace building processes within traditional institutions, while also examining the challenges that continue to hinder women’s meaningful inclusion in community governance.

The session brought together traditional authorities to reflect on the evolving role of women in governance and conflict resolution. Traditional leaders acknowledged that considerable progress has been made in recent years compared to the past.

They noted that women now serve as representatives in several village councils, marking a significant departure from long-standing practices of exclusion.
