BEFORE THE DAY, LET’S TALK ABOUT PEACE

Lockdowns may restrict our movements, but they cannot restrict our commitment to human dignity and security.

As we prepare to mark the International Day of Peace on September 21st, Mother Of Hope Cameroon - Mohcam invites us to pause and reflect on the role each of us plays in building peace.

Peace is not made only in diplomatic rooms. It begins at the grassroots; right inside our households, schools, workplaces and communities.

This year, we are taking the theme beyond words and asking a simple question:

How are you investing in peace every day?

Over the coming days, we will share voices, stories and reflections from people investing in peace in their everyday lives and communities.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: BAMENDA RAISES ITS VOICE 🔴✊🏾

Right now in Bamenda, women, men, civil society organisations, community members and allies are taking to the streets to raise their voices against femicide and violence against women and girls.

The messages being carried through the streets are a powerful reminder that this is not a problem we can remain silent about:

“COMMUNITY ACTION CAN SAVE A WOMAN’S LIFE.”
“NO EXCUSE FOR FEMICIDE.”
“FROM SILENCE TO ACTION - STOP FEMICIDE.”

These are more than words on placards. They are a call for communities to speak up, institutions to strengthen prevention and protection, and everyone to take responsibility for creating safer environments for women and girls.

At MOHCAM, we stand with the collective call for an end to femicide and all forms of violence against women and girls. Our commitment remains rooted in women’s rights, community engagement, GBV prevention and building communities where women and girls can live with safety and dignity.

The march may end, but the responsibility to prevent violence, protect lives and demand accountability must continue.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS FOR WOMEN, PEACE AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE

We were honored to meet with H.E. the Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon for a warm and meaningful conversation.

We had the opportunity to share MOHCAM’s recent reports and speak about the work we are doing across the North West Region, from peacebuilding and community mediation to GBV response and supporting women’s economic empowerment.

Beyond sharing our work, the meeting was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas on how stronger partnerships can help advance women’s leadership, strengthen communities, and contribute to more inclusive and lasting peace.

We are grateful for the warm reception and thoughtful engagement, and we look forward to building on this conversation and the possibilities ahead.

FROM SUMMIT TO ACTION | STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING

The Summit brought women mediators together. This meeting was about keeping that connection alive.

On 21 August 2026, key stakeholders gathered at the Public Independent Conciliator’s Office (PIC), Upstation Bamenda, to take the next steps towards making the North West Regional Women Mediators’ Network a living, active platform for Women Mediators and Peacebuilders.

The meeting was a chance to reconnect with the commitments made at the Summit, reflect on the Network’s direction, and formally install the Steering Committee and endorse its Terms of Reference.

But beyond the formalities, the heart of the conversation was simple: how do we keep women mediators connected, supported and working together for peace?

The Steering Committee now provides a structure to help carry this vision forward, staying connected to the women and communities at the heart of this work and strengthening their collective voice across the North West.

The Summit created the momentum. This meeting gave that momentum structure. And the journey continues.

WHEN WOMEN ARE KILLED, WE MUST NOT LOOK AWAY.

The recent cases of women and girls losing their lives to violence across Cameroon are deeply painful.

For many families, these are not just stories making the rounds on social media. They are daughters who will not come home, mothers whose children are now left without them, sisters, wives, aunties, grandmothers and friends whose absence will be felt every day.

At Mother Of Hope Cameroon - Mohcam , our hearts go out to every family grieving a woman or girl lost to violence. We cannot imagine the weight of such a loss, but we stand in solidarity with those who are mourning.

We are also deeply concerned by how violence against women and girls can become something people hear about, discuss for a moment, and then move on from.

Women should not have to die for us to take violence against them seriously.

We must do better, not only when another life is lost, but before it happens.

As a women-led organisation, we believe that preventing violence is a shared responsibility. We must challenge harmful attitudes and norms, listen to survivors, protect those at risk, strengthen support systems and demand accountability when violence occurs.

Because behind every case is a human being.
A life.
A family.
A future.

We must not look away.

A woman’s life is not disposable. Her safety is not negotiable.

SUMMIT REFLECTIONS | APPRECIATION

The North West Regional Women Mediators Summit 2026 was made even more meaningful by the partners who stood with us and contributed to making the Summit a shared space for learning, connection and peacebuilding.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Boissons du Cameroun North West, Societe BUNS Cameroun, and the CBC Health Services - CBCHS Nkwen Bamenda, for believing in the vision and supporting the Summit in different ways.

From refreshments and other forms of support to bringing essential health services closer to participants and community members, your contributions added value beyond the Summit itself.

We are particularly grateful to CBCHS for providing complimentary health services, including eye screening, HIV testing, breast and cervical cancer screening, blood pressure and diabetes testing, as well as health talks.

A special vote of thanks to the Open Society Foundations for believing in and supporting this vision, and for helping create the space for women mediators, peacebuilders and stakeholders to come together, connect and shape conversations around women’s leadership in peacebuilding.

To all our partners, thank you for showing up, supporting the vision and being part of this journey. Your partnership reminds us that building peaceful and resilient communities is a collective effort.

We look forward to continued collaboration in advancing women’s leadership, participation and peacebuilding across the North West Region.

Today, the Mother of Hope Cameroon (MOHCAM) team had the great honour and pleasure of visiting the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Cameroon.

We are deeply grateful for the warm welcome, meaningful conversation, and opportunity to connect with the Embassy. It was a wonderful experience meeting with you and sharing our vision for building stronger, more resilient and peaceful communities.

World Humanitarian Day 2026 - ACT FOR HUMANITY!

Today, Mother of Hope Cameroon joined other local and international organizations at the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Mbingo Annex Nkwen Bamenda for a day that reminded us exactly why we do this work.

From sunrise stretches to a football match that had EVERYONE on their feet, and yes, both teams proudly included women players, because humanitarian work is for everyone, and so is the field! The energy was contagious, the laughter was real, and the connections made between organizations who had never crossed paths before? Priceless. We were right there in the mix, connecting, learning, and sharing in the spirit of the day.

We raced sacks, chased eggs on spoons, and wandered a mountain of exhibition stands, learning how fellow organizations are weaving protection into everything they do. Then the hall came alive.

Our sisters and brothers from took center stage with a mesmerizing dance and a poem that moved the room to silence, reminding us that ability comes in every form. We danced. We celebrated. We stood as one.

The commitment in that room, the collaboration between local and international NGOs, the inclusion woven into every activity, this is what humanity acting together looks like. At Mother Of Hope Cameroon - Mohcam, we're grateful, inspired, and ready to keep showing up for our communities.
