🚨 Not network glitches. They’re blocking. And we have proof. Between October 31 and November 5, verified data from OONI confirms deliberate blocking of TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and VPNs across Cameroon’s major networks, since the October 12 elections.

https://explorer.ooni.org/findings/393608039300

📊 The evidence is clear:

Telegram blocked on 11 networks, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok blocked via TLS handshake interference

VPNs like ProtonVPN, PureVPN, PIA targeted
Surge in circumvention tool usage starting October 23

This is coordinated digital repression used to silence dissent, hide abuses, and isolate communities during protests and mass arrests.

We thank Access Now, Internet Sans Frontières, Open Tech Fund, and the coalition for standing with us and helping expose these shutdowns. IEHA is proud to be part of this global effort.

📌 What is OONI Probe? It’s a free, open-source tool that anyone can use to detect internet censorship and network interference. It turns your device into a watchdog for digital rights.

🛠️ IEHA’s ongoing response:
Legal advocacy for digital rights
Emergency protocols for journalists and activists
Community-led monitoring and reporting
Pressure on telecoms and regulators for transparency and accountability

🚨 3 Days. Still no word on H. Achomba.

We deeply appreciate the tireless efforts of Access Now, Committee to Protect Journalists, Internet Sans Frontières, OTF, FGI, and all other civil society advocates working to locate him, protect his family and colleagues, and stand against the wave of arrests targeting journalists and activists across Cameroon, including Paul Kema Fru most recently.

We urge local and international actors to keep up the pressure. Silence and ignorance from officials cannot be the answer.

We remember 2017. We hope this is not a repeat.

🖤 Freedom of Press & Activism: Still a Myth in Cameroon?
From Martinez Zogo to Samuel Wazizi, and now Anicet Ekane, Dieudonné Tchameni, and Djeukam Tchameni, our country continues to silence voices that speak truth, demand justice, or dare to dream differently.

Today, we raise a high alert. Our colleague, journalist and activist Hans Achomba, is unaccounted for. Again.

We stand against arbitrary arrests. We call for the release of all detained journalists, activists, and opposition leaders. We urge all administrative institutions, our local and international partners Access Now Committee to Protect Journalists Internet Sans Frontières Faibatek Academy to act swiftly.

This is not just a moment. It’s a pattern. And it must end.

🟣 World Inters*x Day | October 26, 2025
✊🏾 This year, we defend the right to exist—and the right to stay connected.
In Cameroon, World Inters*x Day arrives during a storm: 🚨 Electoral fraud protests 🚨 Internet restrictions and manipulation 🚨 Arrests of activists and journalists 🚨 Fear, silence, and shutdowns

But for inters*x people—already erased from law, media, and healthcare—digital rights are survival rights.

Inters*x people are born with s*x traits that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female. It’s natural, it’s common—yet still misunderstood. Globally, up to 1.7% of people are born inters*x—about the same rate as twins. But many are forced into silence, shame, or surgery before they can speak. 🔗 Learn more: What is Inters*x? https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17QtzSnnAn/

At IEHA, we believe that inters*x rights include digital rights. That bodily autonomy must be matched by online freedom. And that no one should be silenced—online or offline—for simply existing.

This year, we stand with partners like Access Now, the coalition, and SMS Without Borders, who help communities stay connected during crisis. We’re sharing VPN guides, digital safety tips, and offline support tools—because visibility means nothing if you can’t reach the world.

🧠 Stigma-Free Friday
🔌 This week, we talk about a different kind of silence—the one caused by internet shutdowns.
In 2017, the government shut down the internet in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions for 94 days. No warning. No explanation. Just silence. Students missed deadlines. Businesses collapsed. Families lost contact. 🔗 Watch the documentary → Blacked Out: The Shutdown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUVmiSL4rQU

Now, in 2025, as elections approach, digital rights are under threat again. Civil society groups like Access Now and Paradigm Initiative are calling for open internet access, protection of online expression, and transparency from telecom providers and government actors.

Because when the internet goes dark, so does democracy.

At IEHA, we believe that access to information is a human right—especially in times of crisis. We stand with every journalist, activist, and citizen who refuses to be silenced.
