Great innovation to manage waste, maximize limited space and enhance nutrition and food security.

In Brazil, discarded tires are being stacked and transformed into vertical garden spaces, bringing food production into crowded neighborhoods. Instead of taking up large areas of land, these layered structures allow vegetables to grow upward, making efficient use of limited space.

The tires are filled with soil and arranged in tiers, creating compact planting systems where crops like herbs, greens, and small vegetables can thrive. This setup is especially helpful in urban areas where traditional gardening space is scarce, offering residents a practical way to grow fresh food close to home.

Beyond farming, the idea also tackles waste by giving old materials a second purpose. What was once discarded becomes part of a productive system that supports both sustainability and community well-being — showing how simple reuse can reshape everyday environments in meaningful ways.

Market Gardening and Business Management Training and Support for Internally Displaced Persons and Host Communities in Cameroon.

We are pleased to share updates from the SPI funded project in Cameroon.
From the 17th-18th of April, 2026, we implemented the following activities in Galim town and Bamenjim, a neighbourhood in the same Sub-division of West region of Cameroon.
1. market gardening operations and seed management.
2. business management and financial literacy
3. cooperative governance and leadership
4. how to create kitchen garden, nutrition and Vegetable sources.
5. seed distribution to participants
The trainings lasted for 8 hours, 4 hours in each community, 95 participants in Galim and 60 participants in Bamenjim, 25 men, 130 women with 71% IDP and 29% members of the host community.

We distributed huckleberry and cabbage seeds to 155 people. 57,500 grams of huckleberry seeds to 115 people, 500 grams per beneficiary for market garden creation and 1400 grams of cabbage to 140 people, 10 grams per person for kitchen gardens creation. In total, 115 market gardens, and 140 kitchen gardens.

The objective is to fight hunger and reduce poverty in the IDP community, through agribusiness value chains and entrepreneurship with a focus on vegetables. We aim to support IDPs and Host communities to produce their own food, earn income and feed communities, build peace and promote cultural understanding and climate resilience.

We have successfully packaged over 100 packets of huckleberry seeds, 500 grams per packet, to empower IDP women in market gardening in Galim, West region of Cameroon. We expect at least 115 gardens with land capacity of approximately 1/4 hectare per beneficiary. Food Security start by equipping farmers with resources and skills necessary to farm successfully and that is when I.A.A comes in.

Our Market Gardening Project is Creating Impact in the West Region of Cameroon.

We supported women huckleberry farmers in Mogni, in West region of Cameroon in early 2025. We have been providing them with farm advice, entrepreneurship training, micro business, resources and tools to ensure successful huckleberry production and marketing. 71% of the beneficiaries are IDPs. We conducted an evaluation and counselling visit to our beneficiary farms and were impressed of the impact we have created. 123 people in total, 83 IDP women and 40 men. Each person earns 80,000FCFA ($130) per month from their gardens. Through this earning, they pay children school tuition fees, hospital bills and basic household needs without necessary depending on men for support, explained a beneficiary.

Challenges:
1.) Lack of water pumps to irrigate gardens
2.) Lack of organic fertilizer to increase productivity
3.) Lack of sufficient garden tools to facilitate cultivation.
4.) Disease and pest attack huckleberry and reduce productivity to an unprecedented level.

At the level of I.A.A, there is lack of motorbike and smart phones for field workers to ease transportation in remote environments , communication and picture/video production.

123 women have formed a women huckleberry farmers' union and they need 20 Solar pumps and training on water management, pest management and organic fertilizer, and irrigation systems to address drought issues and pest and soil fertility challenges.

I.A.A team need one motorbike and two smart phones to ease transportation of two field workers and support communication.

Creating Opportunities for Vulnerable Communities to Earn a Living from Agriculture while Increasing Food Security in the Face of Changing Weather Conditions.

Integrated Agricultural Association trained 34 trainers on the 31/01/2026 in Galim Sub-division, West region of Cameroon. Most of whom were IDPs with 24 women and 10 men. The training focused on Climate-smart agriculture techniques, How to improve soil health, Water conservation, Efficient irrigation, Proper farm planning and Integrated pest management, Compost production and it lasted for 5 hours.

It is part of the project to support IDPs and host community on market gardening and business management, on how to do agriculture as a sustainable business and not hand to mouth activity. Our next program in the community will focus on training 100 women on the cultivation of huckleberry and entrepreneurship, and training 250 IDP households on Kitchen garden techniques and nutrition. These communities will be supported with seed inputs and tools to create sustainable farm businesses and households gardens to fight poverty and hunger.

Challenge;
IDPs do not have guaranteed land rights, they obtain farm plots through verbal land leasing agreements under unfavourable conditions that instead compound their problems. That is, landowners restrict them from planting drought resistance crops like cassava and do not respect the agreement deadline.

Way forward:
Integrated Agricultural Association will dialogue with municipal and traditional leaders to see how IDPs can be supported while building peaceful cohesion with the host community.
This project is made possible with support from Seed Programs International and Future In Our Hands.

I have a strong passion on food security and poverty alleviation, through sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, health awareness, education and community development. I grew up in a subsistence peasant family and experienced so many challenges within my family as a child such as, lack of education, health care and good nutrition.
Because of these personal childhood challenges, I promised myself to give back to the society with justice and peace at the center of everything I do, reaching out to last mile communities and the marginalized everywhere.

Giving Tuesday is around the corner, a time when the world come together to celebrate generosity and show global solidarity. This is a very important moment for me to further this vision, what I have been doing since 2017 till date.

On Dec, 2-3 I have an objective to raise $10,000 to train 100 young people and rural women on agribusiness and entrepreneurship, providing them with tools and resources to create wealth and increase food security and poverty reduction. Every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Global Giving with $500,000 matching funds available.
When you donate now, your gift counts toward that match and brings us closer to starting ex*****on. Early gifts matter because they show the community that help is already on the way.

On Giving Tuesday, the world will give together. But you can act today and help start the change. Please donate today to make entrepreneurship a reality for women and youths in Cameroon. Donate here: https://goto.gg/58236
