CAEPA Cameroon was founded by a group of women seeking to improve their agricultural production systems by making them environment friendly and sustainable especially. CAEPA COMMEMORATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

It is under the theme "Inspired by nature, for climate, for our future" that CAEPA joins environmental stakeholders in the city of Bamenda to celebrate World Environment Day. With a key note address, the Delegate of MINEPDED reiterated the message of the UNEP Secretary General, imploring communities to invest in protecting nature for climate change adaptation and act now for the future.

This year's celebrations was marked by a symbolic visit to the Bamendankwe Fon's Palace in Bamenda 1 Sub Division, where Environmental civil society actors under the umbrella of NESCAM donated 500 Waterfriendly Trees and Ornamental Trees to the Mendankwe Community. The event equally recorded a significant planting of the Callistemon Tree by the Fon of Bamendankwe, His Royal Highness Fon Forchesiri III. This gesture signifies practical efforts towards restoring nature and contributing to climate change mitigation.

To further spur up actions that protect the environment, a rountable discussion and radio sensitization session has been held, all geared towards engaing the public as actors for environmental protection. The message has been for community members to
- Avoid constructing on mashy areas
- Select waste instead of dumping in rivers
- Reinforce water catchments
- Use organic manure in Agriculture practices
- Ensure ancestral legacy by the protection of rare species
- And the continues sensitization of community members at all levels

CAEPA ENGAGES MBORORO LEADERSHIP ON WOMEN'S LAND ACCESS AND OWNERSHIP IN SABGA

In the Mbororo community, tradition suggests that men hold the keys to land ownership. For women to be granted access and control over land, the support of these men is required. In line with this reality on ground, CAEPA has organized a targeted sensitization session for men in Sabga which is being attended by key stakeholders like the Lamidou (Paramount Chief for the NWR), members of the governing council and community elders.

The educative exchange focused on the legal processes and importance of acquiring land documentation, women's land use rights and the need for women to be included in governing forums for inclusive decision making.

It is worth noting at this point that, times are changing and Mbororos are moving from their nomadic lifestyle to permanent settlement so securing land rights is of utmost importance for community integration and their security.

The importance of women’s access and ownership rights.
When women have secure access and ownership of land, entire communities benefit. Women’s land rights directly improve household food security, as women reinvest up to 90% of their income into family nutrition, health, and education. Documented land ownership also protects women from eviction during widowhood or divorce, and gives them collateral to access credit for farming and small businesses. For the Mbororo community transitioning to settlement, including women in land decisions means stronger family resilience, reduced land disputes, and more inclusive community development. Land is not just property - it’s dignity, safety, and a foundation for the next generation.

From Commitment To Action: Paid Medical Bills Restores Hope for Teenage Mother

Isolation in Vulnerability .
When 18 year old Rita arrived at our GBV Office, her présence was cold and she looked so timid. She seemed distant and deep in thought. In her community, adolescent pregnancy out of marriage is often met with social exclusion, sudden termination of education and absolute financial struggle. Rita spent the early and middle phases of her pregnancy expereincing à difficult reality. She lacked resources which caused her to miss pre-natal clinical care expected of every expectant lady. Her family could offer no substantial financial help. Rita is just 18 yet she carries a reality so heavy to bare. She did NOT give consent but here she was, with a pregnancy already in its third trimester

CAEPA OFFERS CARE :
Realizing that Rita needed more than financial help, we immediately prescribed psychosocial support. We proritize mental wellness, securing health and safety above all else. We moved to enrolling her for pre natal care at the hospital. "We realised that she was almost due so we needed to fund her medical bills" Said Ivoson Estelle- GBV Team Lead.
For three months, our GBV department has worked with Rita and covered her medical expenses leading up to her delivery. We addressed traces of truama, fear, doubt and the overwhelming stigma with which she walked into our office, right from day one.

REBIRTH :
This week, we stepped into the dawn of a new day. Rita gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Thanks to the work done by professional doctors in the medical facility. Take a look at Rita- she has moved from a downcast girl to a lady full of hope and confidence. When she carries her baby, she is beaming with smiles. At every congratulatory word, she blushes with absolute confidence. The psychosocial attention given to her has broken the cycle of self blame and regret.

WHAT NEXT :
While we clear all medical bills, our walk with Rita has just entered it's next phase. At CAEPA Cameroon, true empowerement is continues. In the coming months Rita shall be enrolled at our ICT center where she will interact with other out of school girls and nursing mothers her age. Her story is evidence that CAEPA refused to look away. By funding her medical bills and offering psychosocial restoration, we preserved the future of a child and sustained the life of his mother.

CAEPA Commemorates World Menstrual Hygiene Day with Girls in Sabga

To mark World Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Day, the Community Agriculture And Environmental Protection Association (CAEPA) team visited the Sabga community to engage young girls from the Mbororo community. In line with this year’s global theme, “Together for a Period-Friendly World,” the session focused on empowering girls with practical knowledge and confidence to manage menstruation safely and with dignity.

Impact of the Session.
The initiative reached adolescent girls who are beginning to navigate the changes of puberty. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, the girls were equipped with essential skills to practice safe and hygienic menstrual habits.

Key highlights included:
• Body Awareness: Helping girls understand physical changes during adolescence with confidence and without shame.
• Safe Management: Guidance on choosing and using appropriate menstrual products effectively.
• Health Monitoring: Teaching girls how to recognize abnormal bleeding patterns and when to seek medical help.

Voices from the Girls.
One participant expressed:
“I used to feel embarrassed talking about my period. Now I know it is normal, and I have learned how to take care of myself better.”

Another shared:
“I am happy I learned how to use pads properly and when to ask for help if something is not right.”
This engagement not only improved menstrual hygiene knowledge but also broke down cultural barriers of silence and stigma. By equipping girls with accurate information, CAEPA is fostering healthier practices, building confidence, and contributing to a supportive environment where girls can thrive.

CAEPA Monitors Corn Farms in the North-West Region.

From the highlands of the Ardo Ma**da Hill in Banja, we share highlights from CAEPA’s Monitoring and Evaluation team.

Today, CAEPA visited corn farms managed by rural women farmers in Banja to assess crop growth and progress, following the distribution of corn seeds in March.

The Agricultural Department is also reviewing the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices aimed at strengthening resilience and supporting climate change mitigation. This monitoring exercise has just begun, and the team will continue visiting other communities to ensure that the distributed seeds are properly planted, managed and sustained despite changing climatic conditions.

Stay tuned for more updates from other communities.

SABGA WOMEN PLANT SEEDS OF INDEPENDENCE

Deep in the heart of Tubah Sub Division, a transformation is taking root. Today, Team CAEPA is leading the creation of a vibrant community kitchen garden- an outdoor classroom where the empowerment of Mbororo women is actively growing.

Rows of cabbage and onions have been nursed by these Mbororo women. Through this hands-on initiative, CAEPA is laying the groundwork for a profound shift by helping these women break the cycle of economic dependence and gradually stepping into the roles of providers for their homes.

CAEPA Strengthens Mbororo Women’s Public Speaking and Advocacy Skills

Effective communication is essential to advancing women’s land rights and strengthening their participation in land governance processes in Cameroon. In recognition of this, CAEPA Cameroon organized a public speaking training for Mbororo women under the project “Advancing Mbororo Women’s Land Rights and Governance Influence in Cameroon,” funded by the African Women’s Development Fund ( ).

The training brought together 80 Mbororo women leaders from Bamenda I, Bamenda III, and Tubah Sub-Divisions. The participants were carefully selected to champion community-level dialogue, advocacy, and engagement on women’s access to and ownership of land in Cameroon.

During the training, participants gained practical knowledge in confidence building, public speaking, message development, and effective advocacy communication. The facilitator, Barrister Unusa Karimou, encouraged the women leaders to recognize that fear is a natural part of public speaking, but one that can be managed and overcome through preparation, confidence, and practice. He emphasized that tone, timing, clarity, and respect are central to effective communication and successful advocacy.

The session included plenary discussions, group exercises, and question-and-answer sessions, enabling participants to actively engage, practice, and reflect on the skills learned. This training has strengthened the capacity of Mbororo women leaders to speak confidently, engage community stakeholders, and advocate effectively with policymakers on the importance of women’s land use and ownership rights in Cameroon.
