I used to believe that menstruation was something to be ashamed of, but as I learned more about it, I realized how misguided that thinking was. Let's explore some common myths ❌ and facts ✅ about menstruation.
Myth 1: Menstruation is dirty or impure.
Fact: Menstruation is a natural, healthy biological process where the uterine lining sheds. It’s not dirty or impure — it’s a sign of a well-functioning reproductive system.
Myth 2: You can’t get pregnant during your period.
Fact: While it’s less likely, pregnancy can still happen if you ovulate early or have a shorter menstrual cycle. S***m can live in the body for up to five days.
Myth 3: Exercise should be avoided during periods.
Fact: Light to moderate exercise can actually reduce cramps, boost mood, and increase energy. Physical activity during menstruation is safe and often beneficial.
Myth 4: Periods should always be regular.
Fact: Menstrual cycles vary from person to person. Stress, lifestyle, and health conditions can cause changes, and some irregularity is normal.
