World Sickle Cell Day 2025 June 19

Theme: Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy

Prevention begins with knowledge.

Dear Diligent Brand,

Sickle cell disease is real, and it affects thousands of people in our community. It causes lifelong pain, frequent illness, and emotional strain but it can be managed, and most importantly, it can be prevented.

Please, know your genotype before marriage.
Taking this small step can prevent the birth of a child with sickle cell. Love is not enough. let’s love with wisdom.

On this day, we encourage everyone to:
✔️ Get tested and know your genotype (AA, AS, SS, etc.)
✔️ Educate your family and friends
✔️ Support those living with sickle cell : they are true fighters
✔️ End the stigma and show compassion

Together, let’s build a generation free from preventable suffering.

Cycle Smart Campaign Progress

Our CycleSmart Campaign is dedicated to empowering young girls with knowledge, resources and support to manage their menstrual health with dignity. Through education, awareness, and distribution of essential tools like cycle trackers, we aim to break taboos, foster open conversations and promote better menstrual hygiene practices.

Since the campaign’s launch on 02/05/2025, we have made remarkable strides in reaching our goals. Here are our key achievements so far:

• Cycle Tracker Distribution: 309 young girls have received menstrual cycle trackers, helping them understand and manage their health better.

• Educational Outreach: We have educated 539 schoolchildren and trained 5 teachers, fostering a supportive environment for menstrual health discussions in schools.

• Community Awareness: Through two TV and various social media outreach, we have reached over 7,000 people, raising awareness and breaking stigmas surrounding menstruation.

While we celebrate these achievements, we remain committed to reaching our full campaign targets:

• Distribute 1,000 cycle trackers to young girls.

• Educate 5,000 schoolchildren on menstrual health.

• Train 50 teachers and 50 parents to create a lasting impact in schools and communities.

To accomplish these goals, we seek sponsorship and financial support to expand our reach and ensure every young girl has access to essential menstrual health resources. Your support can help us:

• Increase Tracker Distribution: Secure and distribute the remaining 691 cycle trackers.

• Expand Educational Efforts: Train more teachers and parents to sustain long-term awareness.

• Boost Awareness Campaigns: Utilize multimedia platforms to engage more community members.

Therefore, we invite individuals, organizations, and businesses to partner with us in making a lasting difference. Any contribution whether financial, material, or logistical will be deeply valued. Together, we can ensure young girls experience menstruation with confidence, dignity, and proper education.

Embracing Your Body with Pride: Because Confidence Starts from Within

Your body is powerful, beautiful, and unique and it deserves to be celebrated, not compared. As part of the Cycle Smart Campaign, we’re reminding every girl that her body is not something to be ashamed of, but something to embrace with pride.

From growing curves to monthly periods, your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do. These changes aren’t flaws, they’re signs of strength, maturity, and womanhood.

Here’s how to start embracing your body with pride:
• Speak kindly to yourself
• Stop comparing your body to others
• Learn about your body and how it works
• Take care of your health physically and emotionally
• Celebrate your progress, not just perfection

Confidence doesn’t come from fitting in. It comes from standing tall in your truth and loving yourself fully.

Periods are natural but staying clean during your cycle is key to feeling fresh, healthy, and confident. Yet, many girls are never properly taught how. That’s why being Cycle Smart means knowing the simple habits that keep your body safe.

Essential Hygiene Practices:
• Change your pad every 4–6 hours to avoid odor and infection.
• Wash your hands before and after handling sanitary products.
• Bathe daily and wear clean cotton underwear.
• Wipe front to back to prevent bacteria from entering your body.
• Dispose of used pads properly wrap them and place them in a bin, not the toilet.

Emotional and physical preparation is very important.

How to Prepare Emotionally and Physically: The Part No One Told You About

Menarche, or your first period, is an exciting milestone, it’s your body’s way of saying you’re growing and developing. But here’s the part no one often talks about: it’s not just a physical change, it’s an emotional one too. And that’s okay.

Emotional Preparation:
• Talk to someone you trust, your mom, sister, or teacher.
• Learn about menstruation and how to use sanitary products. Being informed takes away the fear.

Physical Preparation:
• Watch for signs like discharge or mood changes and track your cycle.
• Carry a period kit with pads, wipes, and clean underwear.
• Keep up good hygiene and prepare for discomfort like cramps or tiredness, it’s normal.

The truth is, your first period doesn’t have to be scary. With the right support and preparation, you can handle it with strength and confidence.

Dear Girl, Here’s How to Know Your First Period Is Near
The Signs No One Told You About.

Your body sends signals before your first period, and knowing them helps you stay confident and prepared. Most girls get their first period between ages 9 and 15.

Look out for breast development, p***c and underarm hair, and especially white or clear vaginal discharge, a natural way your body prepares for menstruation. You may also feel mild cramps, get acne, or experience mood changes just before your period starts.

These changes are all normal. They mean your body is growing beautifully and naturally.

Understanding these signs builds confidence. Let’s educate and empower every girl to own her body and her cycle with pride.

Meet Luh Blessing — A Cycle-Smart Volunteer with a Story to Inspire!

My journey with menstruation was far from easy. Though I had heard about it in school, I was unprepared when my first period came. Embarrassed and confused, I turned to the wrong person for help and ended up suffering in silence without pads, support, or understanding. The experience left me stained, ashamed, and resentful of menstruation.

Now, as a mother, I’m determined to rewrite the narrative for my daughter. I’ll educate her on the realities of menstruation, provide her with the resources she needs sanitary pads, pain relief, and emotional support and empower her to speak openly and confidently.

Menstruation shouldn’t be a source of fear or shame. It’s time for parents to listen, guide, and break the silence. Together, we can raise a cycle-smart generation!”

Why Periods Happen?
The Part No One Told You About.

Did you know? Your period is a natural part of your body’s monthly reproductive cycle your body’s way of saying you’re growing into womanhood.

Each month, an egg is released from the ovaries while the uterus prepares for a possible pregnancy by thickening its lining. If the egg isn’t fertilized, this lining is shed and that’s your period.

Menstruation typically begins between ages 9 and 15 and lasts 3 to 7 days. It’s normal. It’s healthy. And it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Understanding your body helps build confidence and self-love. Let’s normalize this conversation and empower every girl with knowledge!
