Through the CAASDEV/CES PROSCIG Project, internally displaced persons and host communities in Bamenda II are coming together to dialogue, identify shared challenges and build solutions together. On the International Day of Peace, we reaffirm our commitment to investing in the people and relationships that make lasting peace possible.

OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIP: 5000 YOUNG CAMEROONIANS TO BE TRAINED IN SOLAR TECHNOLOGY.

CAASDEV is proud to announce the formal sealing of a strategic partnership with the Schneider Electric Foundation, in collaboration with Schneider Electric West Africa, to advance renewable energy skills and green opportunities for young people in Cameroon.

Through this five-year (2026-2030) partnership, we will implement the Solar Bright Future Environmental STEM (E-STEM) Program, with a goal of training 5,000 internally displaced young people in basic electricity and solar systems design, installation and maintenance across the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon.
At the official ceremony, CAASDEV core-team members Mbimenyuy Marius Kongnso and Njolah Brice marked the culmination of over eight months of consultations, problem diagnosis, project design, refinement and engagement that brought this strategic partnership to fruition.
This partnership is more than an agreement.
It is an investment in skills.
It is an investment in young people.
It is an investment in women and girls.
It is an investment in renewable energy.
And ultimately, it is an investment in a greener and more resilient Cameroon.

We are deeply grateful to the Schneider Electric Foundation, and Schneider Electric West Africa for believing in this vision and joining us in turning it into action.

ONE TABLE. MANY STORIES. ONE COMMUNITY.

Sometimes, not every community problem begins with a lack of resources.
Sometimes, it begins with people no longer talking to each other.

In Bamenda II, CAASDEV and CES recently brought together 0ver 50 IDP and host community members from Lower Atu-Azire, Upper Atu-Azire, Azire A and Azire B around one table for a Social Cohesion Dinner.
For a few hours, people who may pass each other every day had the chance to actually sit together, share a meal and listen to one another.
People came with their own experiences.
Some spoke about the difficulties of living together.
Some spoke about mistrust.
Some shared frustrations.
Others simply listened.

But something more important happened.
People began asking:
“What can we do about it—together?”

A community committee was established to help identify and select a common project that can benefit both IDP and host community members, while supporting its management and sustainability.

This is what grassroots social cohesion looks like.

Sometimes, bringing people together reveals challenges that are not visible from the outside.

At CAASDEV's Social Cohesion Dinner in Old Town, Bamenda II, participants spoke openly about challenges affecting relationships between IDPs and host community members.

They highlighted tensions between cultural and religious groups, as well as concerns about exclusion in humanitarian beneficiary targeting arising from the community's diversity and complex leadership structures.

Participants also emphasized the need for greater sensitization on belonging and shared responsibility, while identifying challenges affecting the wider community—including waste management, poor hygiene and sanitation, theft and drug use.

But the conversation did not end with identifying problems.

Community members collectively signed a commitment to play their part in addressing these challenges and strengthening peaceful coexistence within their community.

To translate this commitment into action, participants also nominated a Project Identification and Selection Committee to work with the wider community to identify a common project that can benefit both IDPs and host community members.

The project will be supported under the PROSCIG programme, funded by the European Union and BMZ and implemented by CAASDEV and CES. The committee will also contribute to the management and sustainability of the selected project, strengthening community ownership and shared responsibility.

These are important steps from dialogue to action.

Social cohesion is not built by talking about communities—it is built when communities come together, take responsibility and work collectively to address the challenges they share.

Strengthening Social Cohesion in conflict affected communities.

In Ntahbeg I, II & III (Old Town), Bamenda II subdivision of the North West region, CAASDEV brought together more than 50 IDPs and host community members for a Social Cohesion Dinner focused on strengthening understanding, trust and peaceful coexistence.

The community brought together diverse voices—including quarter representatives, religious groups, youth and women, Indigenous Mbororo leaders, government services and traditional authorities.

The aim was simple: create a safe space where IDPs and host community members could listen to each other, understand their different experiences and identify ways to live and work together.

Because social cohesion is not only about living in the same place.

It is about building the trust needed to share that place peacefully.

IDPs and host community members may have different experiences, but they also share the same neighborhoods, common challenges, aspirations and hopes for the future.

Bringing them to sit around the same table and share a common meal creates an open, safe space where Conversations begin, Experiences are shared, Misunderstandings are challenged and Relationships are built.

As part of the CAASDEV/CES PROSCIG Project, CAASDEV-CAmeroon in partnership with Cornerstone Enrichment Services - CES successfully organized the first Social Cohesion Dinner in Ntarinkun community.

The dinner brought together over 85 internally displaced persons, host community members, quarter heads of Ntarinkun I, II, III and IV, persons living with disabilities, and other community stakeholders in a shared space to dialogue, interact and build relationships.
Through open conversations and shared experiences, participants reflected on the challenges affecting peaceful coexistence between IDPs and Host community members in Ntarinkun and identified practical ways of strengthening trust and cooperation among these groups in Ntarinkun.

Project Inception Workshop | Building Peace with Communities in Bamenda II subdivision

CAASDEV and Cornerstone Enrichment Services (CES) officially launched the 16-month project (15 May 2026 – 15 September 2027), "Enhancing Peace and Social Cohesion between IDPs and Host Community Members in Bamenda II Municipality," during a Stakeholder Inception Workshop held at St. Joseph House, Big Mankon.

Funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the PROSCIG Programme, the workshop brought together 30 stakeholders from Bamenda II Subdivision to establish a shared understanding of the project's objectives, expected results, implementation strategy, and the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. The meeting also strengthened coordination and laid the foundation for inclusive partnerships that will guide project implementation over the next 16 months.

A key highlight of the workshop was the presentation of the project's baseline survey, which identified major challenges affecting social cohesion and peaceful coexistence in the target communities. Stakeholders further highlighted pressing issues, including drug abuse among children and youth, poor waste management, tensions arising from overcrowded IDP households and undeclared family sizes, and gender-based violence—including r**e, sexual abuse, and teenage pregnancies involving both host and displaced families.

The project will focus on Azire, Ntarikon, and Ntahbang (Old Town)—communities hosting large numbers of internally displaced persons—and will promote peaceful coexistence through community dialogue meetings, town hall meetings, social cohesion dinners, women's and girls' football tournaments, and community-led resilience projects identified, prioritized, and implemented by community members.
